What paint to use for dash???

I just painted my hardtop today from tan to black using Krylon Fussion paint and was very pleased with it. Now I want to continue to get rid of all of the tan in the interior and change it to black. I have read a lot of post out there and I am trying to figure out which is the better paint for my dash between the Krylon Fussion and the Duplicolor Vinyl paint. Also should I use an adhesion promoter? Any help would be great.

I am looking to paint my hard top as well, what kind of prep work did you do to the top prior to you painting it?

Finished mine last weekend and used Krylon Fusion. Washed, roughed up with scotch pad, washed again, wiped it off with alcohol, and then painted. This was my dash.

I just got done with my whole dash interior, painted it black. I used Krylon Fusion and couldn't be happier. I will try and take some pics for you today. My interior was gray and I painted a lot of it black.

i've never painted my dash, but if i were going to i would use the krylon fusion. it seems to be the only paint that bonds to plastic. make sure you prep it really well, the better the prep job the better the paint job.

There's no need to do much prep work on the plastic dash pieces. Don't use sand paper. Just wash them off, scrub them with a scotch brite or rough sponge, wash them again and paint them...they will last for years and look great. I painted the interior of my old dakota with the same stuff and all I did was wash the pieces and 3 years later they still looked exactly the same as the day I painted them, no peeling etc....fusion is made so you don't have to prep plastic.

As far as the top goes I used 4 cans of the Krylon Fussion paint. I also suggest getting a clip on trigger that snaps on the can. Here are the steps i used

1. wash with lemon citrus cleaner
2. scuff with green scotch brite pad
3. clean with acetone
4. scuff again with scotch brite pad
5. wipe with tack cloth
6. mask off
7. apply first coat
8. after it dries to touch wipe it off with a clean wet sponge to get rid of any dry paint
that did not adhere to the top
9. repeat steps 7 and 8 until the desired amount has been applied

As far as the dash goes have any of you used any kind of promoter or primer or just spray it? Has everyone had long lasting results? Any pictures would be great

I have seen some post where people have said the Krylon Fusion makes their dash sticky in a lot of heat. Has anyone had this problem?

I cant speak for the Fusion on the dash, but I just finished doing mine all black with Rust-Oleum Fabric and Vinyl paint. Looks great, but I got a little overzealous to put it back together and dinged a couple of places - not sure if letting it dry longer would have made a difference, or if Im just going to have to live with that.

I took off what I could - some stuff - the passenger side air bag, for example, is riveted in place.....so i ended up taping off the whole front of the jeep....

When I have the heat blasting the vent's get sticky. I haven't had it done long enough to know about summer sun beating on it but I can imagine it would get sticky as well.

I took everything out of the jeep I could. The main part of the dash is riveted behind the airbag cover. So I just covered everything and painted that in the jeep.

I know that I have seen some people have removed all of the dash. What year is your Jeep?
