What RPM range is normal?

I know this is dependent on many factors. Assuming stock gears (as far as I know anyway) 215/70 tires(roughly) 1998-4 cylinder auto. I'm running about 3000 at 65 mph.

Does this sound about right? I only ask because I was reading the thread about exhausts and somebody mentioned their sound only gets loud around 3000. Well, that's cruising RPM's for me. Just wondering if it's normal or not.

thank you

Normal from my experience. I had 245/75/15 and I was at about 2900.

Redline or governed RPM is considered by the manufacturers to be "High Idle" and are capable of running at that RPM under load with no issues.

In industrial applications (generators, pumps, etc...) where the HP and Torque curves meet, that is where the operating RPM is typically set.

SO...if you want to maintain the speed limit, or something close to it climbing a mountain pass, and need to keep the engine at 4500 to do it, you should be OK, just keep an eye on the temp and oil pressure gauges.
