What sized lift does this look like?

Just wondering what you think the lift is on this Jeep. The dealer says about 8 inch but I'm not so sure.
The tires are 33's.

Okay thanks, I was hoping it wasn't an eight because I'm sure I'd have to worry about reliability problems or something along those lines? First time Jeep buyer here so I don't know much about this stuff. Also I know that suspension lift and tires affect gas mileage and you can't get as much of a lift/tires on a 4cyl, which it is. Anything I should consider?

They think 8" of lift? wow that's a little f'd up in my opinion. Was it a Jeep dealer?

Auto or stick? I would think gearing could be an issue. You probably would do well with 4.56 for decent power. Not sure what gears came in it stock. I thought 4 bangers had 4.10s though but I could be wrong. See what rear axle you have. If it's the D35 be careful if you ever decide to lock it - that axle isn't very strong, especially with bigger tires.

Maybe the dealer is cluless and is saying it has an 8" lift because there is 8" between the tires and fender...

It's not a Jeep Dealer. It's a stick, the year is 2000 if that matters. It's a regular SE.

I did some searching. It looks like your Jeep came stock with 4.11:1 gears and 205/75/15 tires - roughly 27". Your tires now are 33" - roughly 6" taller. If you still have stock gearing your speedo/odom is way off and your power is suffering. I'm no expert on this but I think you my want to look into lower (numerically higher) gearing. If you stick with the D35 rear axle you likely have, I'm not sure if you can go over 4.56 though. A lot of guys swap in a Ford 8.8 axle instead.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can shed a little more light on this for you.

I haven't purchased anything yet, just considering it as an option. Do you think I should just keep looking around for a six? I'm assuming if I went with this, I wouldn't have to switch anything immediately, but how much of a power loss am I looking at?

If that dealer thinks that is an 8" lift, I would be cautious with anything he tells you (Even more so than usual when dealing with a dealer hehe).

As for the motor, I would definitely look around for a 6 if you can. Having gone from a 4 to the 6 in my current Wrangler, I would never buy a 4 again. Don't get me wrong, I liked my 4banger a lot, and took it through some pretty nasty stuff - but the 6 is just way, way stronger. Also, you really don't take a mileage hit either, just get more power.

Rough Country 3.25 lift and a 1.25 body lift. Nice t-case drop.

Being the ol' 4banger and 33'...(2000)....4.88 gears would be ideal.

X2 on waiting for the 6 cyl. I currently have both... a TJ with the 4 cyl and a LJ with the 6cyl. The TJ goes very well with the 3 inches of lift and 32's but does lack in the power dept. I bought the LJ as a new project and to tow my boat...much better. Don't get me wrong...still love my 4 banger TJ. A lot depends on what you are going to use it for...DD, towing anything? Also factor in where you live. I live in PA...lots of hills. It's nothing to hammer down the road in my TJ at 75-80mph on the highway, but i do a good bit of shifting on the hills.
