What the heck is this????

So I was doing a once over of the jeep and found this hunk of something sitting on top of the fender well right under the fuse box and in front of the battery what the heck is it? Looks like rubber and does it belong to the jeep or what?

yeah so i was looking around and noticed there is one on the other side on the wheel well looks like its supposed to be under some wires and that s sorta where i found the one i posted about it was just a little out of place thats how i found it so it was the jeeps just dont know what the point of it was but whatever it was probably to keep the wires from rubbing on the wheel well or something

I probably would not have touched it in the first place but I'm with ebigham1 on this.

Haha! I still not positive as to what the dang thing is or what it's called but it seems to be some sort of isolator of sorts to keep the bundles of wires from rubbing on the top of the wheel well.

This is a pic of the engine side fender from a '97
At the top of the wheel wells there is a flexible rubber material with black tape over it.
This is installed in the same place on both fenders. It doesn't look exactly like the material in your pic, but perhaps the material changed for different years.

Mine was black with a clear piece of tape on it and it was sitting right on top of the wheel well under some wires. It was loose so I didn't think it belonged there so I took it out but I looked at the other side and there was another one on the other side so not sure of its purpose but guess it belongs there
