Newb here, just realized I have no side mirrors when I take the doors off. What do most people do? Is it illegal to run with no side mirrors? What are my options? Thanks for the insight...
I wanted to keep the factory mirrors, but did not want to move them forward and not be able to see the passenger side clearly. I went with rugged ridge tube doors and ordered factory mirrors that bolt right to them.
Someone in an earlier thread asking the same question of driving in Pennsylvania claimed you need at least one door mirror.
I couldn't find any such law. In fact, the only law I found said you have to have an unobstructed view of the back and sides of your Jeep. By "sides," I would assume being able to do a head check would count as unobstructed. "Back" would lead me to believe the windshield mirror is required.
(1) Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with a mirror mounted on the left side of the vehicle and so located to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least two hundred feet to the rear of such vehicle.
Mac, do you hve the soft top on with the bikini? Are you able to put the soft top over the bikini or do you just run like that then take off bikini when you want the full top up?
seen this a couple years ago on the jeep forum BLACK long stem Harley Davidson mirrors i just got the driver side i think it was aroudn $30 at the local harley shop and it worked great
We have a couple of different Mirror options for when the doors are in the garage. I like to permanently move my mirrors because it gives one less step when removing the doors, but there are mirrors to be used only when the doors are off as well.
Let me know if you have questions or would like a quote!
Each state is different but if you don't have at least the driver side and rear view mirrors it's irresponsible and dangerous for you as well as others on the road.
Here in Indiana you're good with your doors off and no other mirrors other than the windshield rear view, but when I put my windshield down....no mirror. So I took my side views off my Honda shadow, plopped then in the door hinges, and drove away. Even had a cop tell me how good of an idea it was (he also said he didn't know anyone to ticket for not having mirrors, but just in case)
In short: use motorcycle mirrors, you can get some cheap used ones from a junk yard probably.
I bought a cheap mirror from the local parts house. Cut a piece of 1/4" flat stock, drilled a hole on each side of the flat stock. Bolted mirror to one side and ran a bolt through the upper door hinge hole to mount the mirror assembly to the jeep. Worked great and cost was around $7.00.
