I hate tailgaters but I am not ashamed to say that on many occasions am guilty of it myself.

I am one of the ppl that has the "back up" lights on the rear bumper. ( actually have a nice set of Hellas that will be replacing them since the oem stockers are no where near bright enough.)

But back on topic......There are several reasons listed on this post I made some time ago in the "What gives you road rage" thread that might bring me to do a bit of tailgaiting. Best thing though is at night my height and IPF headlights make the inside of the persons car look like its daytime!

What Gives You Road Rage?

Included in my list but not limited to.....
-People who think it is safe to try and merge onto the highway going around 35mph as you mentioned above.
-People that make a rt turn on red into the lane you are traveling making you slam on your brakes so you dont drive over them
-People that stay in and cruise in the fast lane when there are not any cars in the lane to their rt or go the same speed as the car to the rt of them.
-People that dont signal before turning
-People that ride your arse and when you move over to let them by they either stay in their lane and dont pass or get behind you again
-People that dont understand the concept of how you alternate traffic at stop signs
-People that drive in breakdown lanes in heavy traffic.
-People that pull into merging merging on ramp lanes just to pass a few cars and merge back into the original lane they were in.
-People that wait last minute to get into an exiting lane or out of the exiting lane and expect to be let in when they had plenty of time/room if they had done it earlier.
-People that get in the wrong lane at intersections and want to turn.
-People that cant park for *crap*. Either they cant pull in between the lines, park on your bumper when parallel parking, or park way to close so you cant open your door
-People that slam on their brakes for yellow stop lights
-People that speed up to get in front of you and once they do they go slower than you were going originally.
-People that double park on the side of the road so the entire lane is escentially blocked.
-People that do not pull to the left when waiting to make a lft turn so they block all traffic behind them instead of leaving room to pass.
-J walkers especially when they take their sweet arse time crossing

Thats just a few off the top of my head. I know I need some type of anger management or medication.

Other drivers make me wanna --->

I usually hit the brake pedal just enough to engage the light and at the same time I floor the gas.

I like to down shift real hard, no lights just slow drop a gear or 2. That usually does the trick.

When riding a M/C I use marbles over the shoulder. What are they going to do - they'll never catch me.

My favorite thing to do is box them in!Line your front bumper up with rear bumper of vehicle in adjacent lane, then maintain constant steady speed to dis-allow the prick going anywhere but where he is!

i heard a story on the radio of a guy who gets so pissed off at people who tail gate him and piss him off that he goes out of his way to pay a ton extra on his insurance just so he can purposely slam on his brakes to cause a accident just to prove a point, and when he was asked why he said he always looks forward to a new paint job when ever it happens.

Sometimes I'll hog both lanes so they can't pass, downshift, brake check em, or just take my foot off the gas and see how slow I can get down to until they back off or risk a ticket to pass (especially in town)...at night, I may do one of the above...or if they pass and cut me off, I'll kick my high beams and Hella 500's on behind them to show my disapproval.

Tailgators drive me absolutely crazy unless I'm not paying attention and driving well under the speed limit...then I speed up or let em pass knowing I put myself in that situation...since super slow drivers piss me off as well.

He must live in a no fault state...cuz around here, if you're rear-ended, even if it was because you locked your brakes up on them, the car who rear-ends you will be cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance and their insurance will be responsible for paying for all damages.

That's the definition of a SPLIT SECOND: The time between the time the light turns green and the a$$hole behind you honks.

Also, a traffic light: the electronical optical device which lets a motorist catch up with the idiot that passed them at 70 mph one mile back.

If it weren't so dangerous to do this nowadays, if someone honked at me at a light I'd get out and ask them what they wanted.

You could fashion a long, narrow box with a clamshell style lid mounted inverted and operated by a RC servo. Mount it in front of the muffler and connect it to a switch on the dash to operate the servo. The servo would open slowly. If the box were loaded with small pebbles at the bottom and larger ones at the top, the small ones would fall first followed by the big ones later.

Another idea would be to rig a second wiper system with the spray tip mounted on the ends of the bumper. Fill the auxiliary tank with anything but washer fluid (why waste good cleaning solutions), the more viscous or disgusting the better.

Yeah, I hate tailgaters, too. Anyone know where I can find an aircraft landing light to fit where my spare tyre is?

There's several things I do.

I have the Rampage tire carrier with spots mounted in them, and they're switched to my dash, so if it's dark, I light 'em up.

I also have a 35" spare tire on my tire carrier, BRAKE CHECK!

I've also been known to "dust" people...that's when you hang a tire off the pavement and kick roadside debris at them.

I have an 07 Chevy Silverado 2500 duramax 4x4 4-door with a 6" lift and 35s, I run the heavy duity trailer hitch in it year-round. it does wonders on peoples bumpers.

And like 03 RUBI, I carry a handfull of 1/2" grade 8 nuts in the left pocket of my vest when I'm on my chopper. They'll leave a mark to remember on a windshield or radiator.

If they are really pissing me off I just touch the brakes & sometimes it scares the crap out of them, it's fun to hear their brakes screech. Then as they pass me flipping me off I blow them a kiss, they hate it

I had an interesting encounter with a tailgater once a long time ago. I was in a small car and there was a girl driving a lifted Toyota pick-up on what looked like 33's. I'm on a 4 lane street in town and she comes right up on my @$$ and I mean right up on it. I let it go for about 2 blocks because I thought she would just go around since there was no one beside me. Nope so I brake checked her a bit and she hit her brakes but once she realized I was only hitting the pedal enough to make the brake lights come on she was right up my @$$ again. So I then HIT the brakes and then hit the throttle. She then got right up on my @$$ again and then passed me.

So I thought I would return the favor. Basically she did the same thing I had just done except after she slammed on the brakes she hit the throttle hard and sped up to put a little bit of distance between us and then she pulled into the center turn lane and slammed on the brakes till she was stopped. As she was coming to a stop but not yet stopped the guy in the passenger seat was jumping out of the truck and grabbing a baseball bat out of the bed of the truck.

Some people are nuts. I mean ya ride someones @$$ for no reason and then get all kinds of bent out of shape when the favor is returned.

If always have spare change on top of the dash. If I dont have the top on, then I just reach up and grab a few pennies and flip them up in the air. Once it catches the slip stream, they have a tendency to bounce off of the windshield behind you. If you have enough skill, they wont even notice the flicking of the pennies.

I'm all for punishing tailgaters who are driving erratically or who have the option to pass and don't. But I don't know how many times I've been driving my Mustang and get caught behind someone going 55mph in the passing/fast lane. Slower traffic move right. It's the rule of the road. When I drive the Jeep, I'm always in the right-hand lane unless I'm passing an even slower driver. 9 times out of 10 that tailgater just wants to get around you. If you leave him an option, he'll usually take it and be out of your hair. Let's be honest, Jeeps aren't sports cars. You can't expect everyone else on the road to be in the same mindset of "just taking a cruise and enjoying the scenery."

Now if we're talking about a 2 lane road with a solid center line, I can understand the frustration entirely.
