Question What to look for in my new used jeep?

Found a 2000 SE. 150000 miles for 6k. 4cyl manual. What should I be aware of. Anything I should be looking for to warn me off! New to jeeps so any advice is welcomed. Thanks! !!

Try a basic search pleanty of topics in last. Look at frame for rust including tank pay attention to top and tires cause that is 2 big expenses and go from there

Make sure you want a 4cyl. Would be my first advice. Next would be your list of criteria, ie; axles, full doors, half doors, hard top, soft top, a/c, manual, auto, low mileage, etc. When you find one that meets an acceptable amount of criteria I suggest you pick it apart and honestly look at its condition and what it needs. Just my $.02, I found a pretty sweet little TJ but I compromised on the axles and a hard top. That was acceptable to me, because of the vehicles condition and other features.

Good luck and may you find what you seek!

If you won't be hardcore offroad and mostly a daily driver the 4cyl is a good engine in my opinion I drive 400 miles a week and get around 19-20 mpg on 31x10.50 and still have a/c when I want it. I've never regretted getting the 4 except maybe on long interstate travel but that doesn't happen much

If you're mechanically inclined, do a once over the whole jeep, don't be in a rush, there's always another jeep out there especially this time of year. I had a 4cyl in my first two wranglers and hated it, then again my normal vehicle is a 04 Duramax pickup too... you can tell a lot about how the jeep was maintained by looking at the current fluids. Is the oil burnt? Is the inside of the radiator rusted? grab a 3/8 ratchet and pop off the differential fill plugs, stick a finger in and check the fluid level and see if it looks like black tar or like gear oil should look. crawl under with a flashlight and check all the little corners for rust, cut wires, etc. motor mounts all rusted up? maybe the PO used it for off roading and never washed it after....time and time again that stuff adds up. Turn on every setting, dash button, switch, etc. Make sure the heat works once you're warmed up driving, same with AC. U joints and 4x4 are things many novice jeepers fail to check assuming they are good. If the seller has carfax or better yet receipts of parts or a detailed book of service....chances are they take care of their jeep.
