What toy is this for?

Hi
I was just curious to know what this wire is meant for. It seems like an optional something I didn't get when I bought the Jeep.
Thanks so much!

To me it looks like a diagnostic plug.

Give it a good yank and see if it comes out. If it does you didn't need it anyways. If it don't, stuff it back in and hope you didn't break it

(I'm totally kidding, please don't do what I just described)

That came up in another forum as being for the upgraded rearview mirror that has reading lamps, compass, etc.

Diagnostic ports, on vehicles 1995 and new are on the driver side just under the dash... although I have found a few in Vw's in the middle the dash. And honda doesn't like to conform either, sometimes stickin' them on the pass sice of the vehicle.

sometimes on the upgraded OEM radios there is a secondary plug for the steering wheel controls or Factory Sat radio. it looks similar to that plug but I can't really tell from that pic.

Any way its cheaper for auto makers to put in all those wires in all their cars rather than make custom wire harnesses for each, you'll find other random harnesses behind that dash too for other little add ons
