What works?

I'm in the process of replacing the valve cover gasket. It hasn't been touched since its been on the road. The seal is STUCK right onto the cover and engine. scrapping with a plastic tool is not effective. Ideas? i've heard of soaking the valve cover in gasoline/kerosene?

Get a gasket scraper like this:

or, you could use a putty knife. Just be careful, I believe the valve cover is aluminum.
