what would you do

hey guys i have around 2 grand to spend but am unsure of which route to take i live in ohio and use the jeep as my DD but like to do some mild wheeling mainly logging roads and creek beds (have a 2000 acre farm in KY). here are a few options but would like to hear some feedback.

1. leave suspension stock put agressive 31's on it. skids, and various body armor. winch and some other recovery gear(i have straps hilift etc...) and maybe a rear locker.

2. 3 in lift 33x10.50 (keeping stock 15x8) skids and body armor. and if any money is left buy a winch

i like number one the best but really like the way number 2 could turn out looking when its finished.

theres pros and cons of each setup. i myself would probably go with #2...but then again #1 isn't a bad setup either except for a bunch of that weight might cause it to sag a little. oh well... spacers.

BTW a cheap way to do a 3" lift is to do a 2" BB and a 1" BL

I would do #2, I kind of am doing #2, except i plan on getting a front aussie locker

i had plans of doing a 2 in BB from fabtech (the adjustable ones) and a 1'' BL. i like having adjustable spacers so i can add heavy stuff later without basically doing it all over again.

i JUST picked up a 4 wheel magazine (JP) less than a couple days ago and they too installed the fabtech adjustable spacer lift...they really liked it...if your plannin on that lift you should pick up their mag!!

I was kinda in your same position. I deceied to go with a 4inch lift and 33's. You can get a complete suspension lift with everything you need and upgraded shocks and steering stabilizer for $640. I aso found a great site that has the best prices on tires and rims. www.tirepackage.com You could also consider going with a 33X10.50 tire and keeping your stock rims. BFG makes them and SuperSwamper. I figured that I would regreat it if I didn't do all the way the first time. You should still have $$ left over for a few other mods.

I forgot to mention that I got the Rough Country stage II lift. You can go to the Rough Country web site and check it out for yourself. I'm putting the lift on in 2 weeks and I'll try to post some Pics.

I have a 4 inch superlift and 33's, its not a bad drive on the road and really stands out from stock jeeps. Option 1 seems like an interesting choice though because from there if you ever decided to lift the jeep you would have a great base to work off of. Also if your new to wheeling it might be more fun to see how capable a nearly stock jeep is... you might be suprised what they can do!

option 1 was going off the idea that if i did decide to go big i wouldnt ever be doubling my work. i would really like to see pics of 4 in and 33's if ya post a pic please post specs too. thanks again you all rock.

Personally I would say option 1 would be your best bet. Sounds like the wheeling you are going to be doing isn't going to need all of the underbody clearance that 33's and a lift would get you. You could also just as easily stick 32's under your right with no lift on it or at most some small spacers. That way you would be able to use your money for skids (belly up skid will be like adding another 1" worth of tires for you) and your winch. Then by the time your new tires wear down or you get the next itch your platform is ready to go.

My own .02 ....

2 inch spacer kit
31x10.50 or 32x10.50( this way you can keep cost down by using your same rims)
skid plates
winch
off-road lights(if you are ever out on those loggin roads in the evening)
if you have a enough maybe some rock rails....

just my opinions if I had $2k

im runnin the 32's with no lift and im pretty happy with the size to be honest but i really would like a BB...get me a 2" BB and some rock rails and i'd be soooo happy...then i'd just throw 33's under there when the 32's wore out!

the only time i rubbed offroad was at full flex when i was going over a hill with a big sloping uphill rut on one side and right rear tire had to go up on it while the left rear tire was down on lower ground...and surprisingly it was the rear that rubbed and not the front...and it ONLY rubbed when i went at the rut at an angle...when i went straight it didn't...i flexed it to the max as much as i could go on a hill and it just rubbed the rear a little (not enough to even push up the flares)

I agree but if you go with option 1 then you may want to go with a 1 inch body lift, they dont hav much negative affect if u stick with only 1 in and it will help you (install wise) if u decide to run a gastank skid like kilby's or something like a tummy tucker... jus a thought

well everyone i decided to go with a 2 in bb and 32x10.50 swamper tsl radials. that will run me about 1000 bucks after all is said and done then i will be adding rock rails and engine skid. already have a steering box skid and gas tank (from factory i know i know) but im not beating it to death. looked at an 8000 lb winch but didnt know how hard it was to mount to stock bumper? is it just a mounting plate or does it involve more?
