What would you do wrangler forum?

Here is my predicament and I realize this isn't legal advice just wondering what you guys would do. I have a 2.5" lift and a 1.25" BL and I plan on running 33x12.5 tires soon. I have everything except the tires and wheels. I can't afford to get the 33" tires and rims for at least another month or 2 maybe more but they are next on my list. My inspection is due in 10 days and my current tires (30x9.5) are completely bald and will not pass inspection. I found 4 Widetrack Baja MT's on craigslist for $175 with 60% + tread left on them they are also size 30x9.5

My two options are: drive around uninspected for a month or two on my current tires and get the 33's and wheels when I can. Or go get these 30x9.5 widetrack baja mt's put these on for a couple months so I can get inspected and finish saving for 33's and then sell the baja mt's with my stock jeep rims. What would you guys do?

Dont waste your money on tires you dont want. It will just take you longer to save up for the actual tires you want.

depends, how much is the inspection ticket?

fwiw, 2 of my 3 cars registration stickers are expired (one for 3 months now). I have the current registration stickers, I just haven't felt like putting them on...so you can see where my priorities are.

I've become quite friendly with the local inspection place guy. He knows me to the extent when I took the Lotus in for its inspection He just rode around the block with me and that was the inspection. I'm not keen on letting people drive it. This is something that comes in handy.

find a friend willing to let you borrow their wheels/unbalded tires for the inspection before it's past due. Get new (better) tires asap. I'm sure junkies got decent onces for less than $175 if you are loooking to just make it through until you got the cash

...and I'm expecting a burn for that comment so...

ummm, how about them Yankees? I hope they make the ALCS

Yea I'm leaning toward just going uninspected, I did for 7 months one time when I was kid

But inspection ticket is $80 so If I get pulled over twice it costs me more than it would have to get the used tires. At least with the baja tires I can prob sell them with my stock rims and get what I paid for them if not more. You can see why I am torn.

I would not drive without inspection. It's just a magnet to get pulled over and may trigger a write up for other items.

PS, it might be good to fill out your profile with your location. There is a chance someone here may be local to you and could help you out with loaner wheels/tires.

I'd also look up any local Jeep organizations and message board. One of those may be able to help you.

Is that $175 for the tires and rims? Either way I say buy them. That way not only will you be able to pass inspection but you wont be driving around with bald tires. What happens if you loose traction and hit something. Not only will you have to pay the $80 inspection ticket but whatever is needed for repairs or even medical treatment. Plus Im sure you will be able to get your $ back when you sell those tires down the road on craigslist. But thats just me.

I'm in Vermont. Our inspection sticker is large and right in the center of the windshield. It wouldn't be hard to spot it's outdated. I mean really if I buy these baja mt's I'll have a decent tire for a couple months and I can prob sell them for what I paid for them and even more if I leave them on my stock wheels when I sell them, I just hate putting money into these when I'm saving for what I want. I wish I had jeep friends to swap tires for the day with. The $175 is just for the tires I will be putting them on my stock rims until I buy 33's and some wheels with less backspacing. And not to mention how much I hate the look of my jeep with 3.75" of lift and 30" tires

Has anyone ever hear or run widetrack baja mt's? anygood?

I lived in VT for 5 years. It would be one thing if you lived in Tx or Nv but IMO this is getting to be the time of year I wouldnt want to be rolling around with bald tires up there.

Mt. "Killing"ton didn't get that name for nothing. Get the temp tires - not a bad deal at all.

I'm going there to ski in a few months - too bad the timing doesn't work. I'd help you out, but im in Staten Island.

Can't you buy the wheels and tires you want on a credit card and pay it off in a couple of months? I would not waste time and money on tires I do not want just to pass some inspection. We don't have these inspections out here, one good thing about this state I guess.

Find someone nearby an borrow their tires and wheels for a day haha that's what I would do. If no one can then I would just keep saving for the 33s

I think that SOME of the posts are missing the point. Given that you are in VT and you WILL be dealing with snow in the very near future....If you are dead, there will be no 33s. Get the freakin tires and sell them for whatever even if you have to wait a little bit longer. Do you really want to put your new wheels and tires on in the dead of winter anyway?

Hit up craigslist for some super cheap tires with enough tread to pass inspection...Theres a guy near me selling a set of goodyear wrangler's with about 50% tread on them for 50 bucks (set of 4)

I have hit up craigslist that's where I found these. Thing is if I'm going to get tires and pay to have them mounted and balanced etc.. I want decent tires for two reasons. One because it's already snowed here and it gets nasty in the winter and two when I take them off I want to have a tire that's worth a little bit to sell with my stock rims. I don't care about an inspection ticket shit happens but I really don't want to drive in the snow with bald tires I still don't know what I'm going to do yet because I hate the thought of spending money that's for my new tires on tires I don't want. But I might have to weather I like it or not. I can probably get a lot more than I paid for them in a month or two especially if I leave them on my stock rims.
