What would you pay for this?

◄ ◄2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport - Green Manual

Low miles, but is it worth 10?

I looked at it today and it looked pretty clean. Needs the fenders repainted (not a biggie) and maybe a new top in the next year or so. I checked underneath for rust and from what I could tell is that someone sprayed the frame recently... Makes me think they might be hiding something.

Anywho, let me know what you think she's worth.

Thanks

Normally I would say not bad go for it but a real jeep don't have fresh paint on the frame for no reason.

I went after work so I could avoid pushy salespeople and I didn't have a chance to really get underneath and check inside and out. I'll go back later this week and give it a test drive, but I figured I should go there armed with a decent price to offer cash in hand.

At that small of a dealership they have 5k built in to profit...easy. They likely bought it at auction for 4-5k. Small dealers pick up tjs because they know they can move them quickly. I would offer 7 tops (after having it checked by a mechanic) leave my number and walk away. They will be happy to make a quick 3k.

Excellent... Now I just need to find a good Jeep mechanic in the Boston/south of Boston area.

I agree. 7 k is a good offer. Don't get your hopes up though they might shoot you down hoping you will give them ammo. Jrussblues is right with the walk away part leave them thinking your fine without it.

As a detailer myself I always undercoat or paint frames just to make it look better. I mean really half of us jeep guys try to grind rust off and por 15 or chassis line them for a nice clean black look do we not? It helps them sell when they look good down there

I'm not saying he's shady, I was just curious. I'll investigate further and see what happens.

Well the description says it was kept in a garage.....looks like sun faded fender flares to me. Imo they don't fade that bad for someone who keeps them in their garage at home. Even outside while away from home shouldn't fade that much if garage kept....just sayin.

The tops and fenders showed signs of sun fading when I looked at it. I don't think there's any way in hell this Jeep was garaged its whole life and given the harsh New England winters we get, I'm weary of rust and/or rot.

Again, I think my best bet is to take this thing for a test drive and bring it by a mechanic who can give it a quick once over and confirm its structural integrity. Then I can start in on working the price down...

FWIW, the description also says that it has fog lamps, running boards and steel wheels?? Were there some other pics that I didn"t see? It looks nice but 10k seems a little high to me. I paid 8k for a similar "01 almost 2 years ago.

In november 2011 I bought my jeep with 103k miles for $9900. Same package as that jeep there. 2000 sport 5 speed 4.0 soft top.

That seems high to me but Jeeps bring different amounts in different areas. I bought a 05 Unlimited, w/ an automatic and 68K miles for $12K in January in Virginia, it also had faded fenders but the underside was spotless.

Seems like a standard price for a similar Jeep at a dealer out here in so cal. The dealers out here tend to be about $2000-3000 above the private party sale price. They definitely have room to move. I wouldnt pay more than $8500 out the door for it.

I think this pretty much sums it up. That jeep would be in the 11 to 13k range in Oregon if it was on a car lot. Hard to beat the low miles on it.

Lets see... First it doesn't have fog lights (which they list), it doesn't have the switch for fog lights, it also doesn't have the switch for a rear window defroster, so it probably wouldn't have that part of the wiring harness... Aside from the scratch on the hood, those are the only things that jump out at me. And it doesn't matter if it was garage kept. If they drove it to work 5 days a week for even 5 years, those fenders would have a nice fade to them. 8+ hours a day out in the sun?
