What year was the rubicon introduced?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I need to know. Wiki says they were introduced in 2003, but I have a ad on craigslist that says the guys jeep in a 97 rubicon. Can someone confirm this for me?

Ad- 97 Jeep Wrangler W/Hardtop and Full doors

Dont think they made the rubicons in a 4 banger

After reading the post though, I dont think he ever claimed it to be a rubicon? Just said it had rubicon wheels. Granted the sticker is a little misleading....

95% of the ads and the respondents are scams of some sort on Craig's list.

That's just simply not true. I've sold and bought a ton of stuff on CL and haven't had any trouble so far. It's just about recognizing scams, and it helps that most are so obvious. I have yet to get sucked into an ad scam, and only a handful have beens responses that are bot/advert respondents. The benefit to Craigslist is that it's a local trading board, unlike Ebay.

It's all about recognizing obvious scams. You use CL because it's a local board. You meet up locally and you see the goods in question before purchase. As long as you recognize that you don't mail/wire money, then you have little chance of getting screwed over. I've sold and bought cars from craigslist, bought and sold goods, sold my apartment, etc. and have YET to have a problem. Always meet in a public location and pay/receive only cash and you're good. Inspect the items first obviously.

Not to mention the posted ad in question isn't necessarily a scam. Just seems the guy is selling a 4-banger (it's clearly an SE with no Sport sticker on the side) and has added the Rubicon stickers. There's a local guy around here with a Cherokee that has Rubicon stickers on it. It's pathetic, but it's whatever I guess. The wheels aren't the stock wheels - those are the 2003+ wheels (and beauties at that). But that is a lot of money.

To give you an estimate - a year ago I paid $6,000 for a 1999 Sport (6-cyl.) hardtop with 119k miles and aftermarket wheels. Granted, the renewed interior is very nice but not worth the extra money he's looking for. If it were me, I'd make sure to pull a carfax to check for flood damage given the new interior. And pull that steering wheel cover off to check for damage.

I've tried to buy things from CL, and tried to sell them. In EVERY situation it turned out the transaction wasn't honest. Bad checks, photocopies of checks, stolen checks, counterfeit cash, false advertising etc.

Put your email address on it and you'll get tons of spam.

Put your phone on it and you get all kinds of scam phone calls.

The flimflammers even send a message that your ad has been cancelled - to try to get your password.

And then - the crooks copy the ad and present it as their own.

Instead of trying to sell something on there, I'll send it to the dump instead.

Even the Feds have arrested many on there.

5% honest transactions is probably high.

I bought my 99 sport less than 2 months ago from Craigslist.
2 weeks ago I bought a black hardtop with rack and cargo basket from Cragislist.
Yesterday I bought half doors from Craigslist.
I buy and sell lots of stuff from there. The key is the old saying " if it seems too good to be true... it is."
If you are looking to steal something for a super cheap price then you are who the crooks are looking for.
Use you head, make phone calls and ask questions. You would be suprised how easy it is to pick up on someone that is trying to rip you off.
Only once did I get a bad feeling from someone and I just told them I was going to look around some more.

The Rubicon was introduced in 2003 with the 4.0 engine, easist way to tell is if it has the factory diff lock switch on the console which will only light up on the dash in low range,(without the mod) plus the Rubi is 2" taller and if it is on factory Moabs they are 16" good luck

I ran in to a lady with a metallic beetle green Rubicon. She said it was an 06 and only 23 were made in that color. It was lifted and looked pretty sharp.

I hope you didn't hurt it too bad when you ran into it.

The wheels on the 97 are from a JK. It's not a bad looking Jeep actually.
Here's my 06 Rubicon Unlimited with JK wheels.

I met her at the store. LOL. Actually, a lady did run into me at an intersection and totaled my truck, which resulted in my purchase of my TJ Sport.

Thanks, Jerry. It's a "Rubitrux" built in Boone, NC. We love it and get people stopping us all the time to ask about it.
