Whats a decent price to repaint TJ?

The wifes 2000 TJ is in need of a paint job. Its the Hunter Green with the Sahara package. I'm just curious to know about what people are paying to repaint the same color?

She even mentioned wanting to do the entire Jeep in bedliner. Has anyone done this? I like the idea, just not sure how it would look. I spoke with a body shop guy I know and he told me he could mix it with less texture, and add UV protectant, and even add a clear to it. Told me he would do the entire Jeep (outside) for $1300. I'm just not sure how places like door jambs and places like that would do with the bedliner. If anyone has pics that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't pay too much for it if it does see off road use. I personally don't like the liner on the outside but I wouldn't pay 1,300 for a paint job on a wrangler either way.

Her Jeep is basically a work vehicle. The only place it goes other than around town is to the beach.

How much did the guy quote you on a reg paint job? No liner mixed in?

I didnt even ask. I was getting something fixed on my daughters car and just asked him if he could do the whole thing in liner. I'm probably gonna run over there and see what he would charge to paint it. Was just curious what the going rates were.

I'm curious about the cost too. I've got clear coat failure on my hood and it's going to have to be repainted. Please let us know what kind of price they quote you.

I've got a clear coat issue on the hood of my 97 Wrangler also. It looks as if it has what we call "chicken tracks", or, some say it is "checking". The more I wash and wax it, the more it drives me crazy. I'm not sure how high 1300$ is. I know times are tough and there is competition out there, but, if you want a "quality" job with a body shop that is going to do it right and not just scuff it, paint it, clear it and send it down the road, be prepared to pay over 1000$.

I used to have an International Scout, and on their forums the general consensus is 20 bucks for a few rattle cans.

Well I spent 9 years of my life doing automotive paint and body work. I also owned a shop for a period of time with a partner. We did all kinds of work from car lot work to high end restoration. If I had to bid a paint job be it a fender or an overall, I would use, as a general rule of thumb, the $100 per panel as a base. Car lot work was $50 a panel and insurance work usually averages $200 a panel. Cust pay was $100 per panel: included prep, sealer, base, clear and a wet sand and buff. Jeeps have 10 panels on a soft top jeep. So $1000 should be an average price for a nice base/clear overall. Keep in mind your big shops have big overhead so maybe a little more $$$$$

It really depends on the shop. I know shops that will do a job for $700-800, and it looks good. There is also the route like MAACO, and those shops that have $300 dollar paint jobs. Not the best work, but if you just want some paint it works. I priced my 2002 for a repaint from a shop that does real nice work, and with my minor body work and base coat - clear coat he quoted me around $1200. Even said he would shoot the inside tub in the Bed liner material. If I take all the internals out. I am going to have him do it next spring. I know it is more than some places but I have seen lots of his work, and since I bought the Jeep new and have no intent on selling it I don't mind paying a bit extra for what I want.

Mine started out with the "tracks" and just got worse from there. It's pretty bad, it will definetly need to be painted but for now I am living with it. The rest of the jeep looks good, i just waxed it a couple weeks ago. When I get it repainted I want it to be as close to factory quality as I can get. I plan on keeping it so the price to have it repainted is worth it to me.

It's nice to see what other people have been quoted.

can I suggest rhino lining your jeep? I got quoted 1000 for exterior 500 for interior...1500 dollars to never have to repaint a jeep again is cheap!

I was told the door jambs would be done but the jeep would have that area sprayed thinner

Ask your guy what he'd consider if you paid cash, flat out.

Two years ago my dad had a car painted for $1,000 cash.

Herculiner, about $100 per gallon and you do it yourself.
