Another dealer told me my frame was done.....it's not worth me keeping this Jeep. I've only owned it 6 months
With that being said here's the list of what she is: 2000 wrangler tj sport 4.0 automatic 154k
New tune up, air filter, battery, starter, Rear brakes completely redone...new drums, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and brake lines.
Brand new softopper soft top.
CD player w/ iPod aux USB hook up.

Well I bought this with the intention of keeping and building. Before I purchased this jeep from a private owner I took the jeep and paid $100 for an inspection from a Jeep dealership. They said it only needed tuneup, fluids etc. so I bought it. I've been fixing it up, and when my friend took a look at it over the weekend we discovered the frame may have lost some integrity. So I am looking for my best option...
End result is me in another tj with the least loss of $$$. I do not want to screw anyone is why I'm posting openly.

Dood, find someone local who knows what they're doing, has a welder, and can spare some time. Get that thing repaired. There's no point to owning a Jeep if you're not gonna fix it.

I would love it fixed....but when a fabricator and a Jeep specific used dealer tells me I can't save it what am I to do?

I would love nothing more than to save this jeep...just keep being told I can't.
Told there might not be enough good metal to weld the safetcaps onto...or any metal for that matter. Again I would love to save it but if I can't....I have to move to another jeep. But can't until I figure out what to do with this.

poor fabricator if he cant save it. a real fabricator doesn't think in terms of cant its always can. because with steel there is always a way to repair it.

Yeah, it does not look good there. However, I still think it is fixable. Grab a welder, and get to work.

you have several options. 1) Get a donor frame. Usually for around 5 - 800. 2) Get some frame sleves that you can weld on. I have seen some on this site. Do a search

What's the labor for a frame swap? I'm in grad school full time, and taking boards in march. No time, next to no $$$, no garage, no welder or skill for this job...

I dont know why there is that gap between the frame and the t-case skidplate, but from those pics it doesnt look like the frame is shot right now. yes there is rust, but doesnt look rotted. before doing anything crazy i would go at the worst parts with a hammer to see if the steel is rotted through. Then again, ilive in NY so rusting frams on older vehicles is normal around here. my TJ is better, but looks similar. I have had several mechanics tell me how good the shape of my frame is in...lol.

Seriously? that's it? Please listen to everyone and borrow/rent/commandeer a welder...... or grab your buddy who owns a welder a 30 rack and have at it. Hell, buy ME a case of beer and drive on up to NH!

In New England it's just part of life. Last summer was 3 weeks of frame inserts just to get a sticker on a TJ I picked up.

My opinion is that's NOT that bad. Like Joey said, I can't see rot. Did the Tcase studs pull through? It's not clear.

Same thing happened to mine. I got a wrecked frame for $400 and had a local fab shop cut out my bad section and weld in the good section from the donor frame.

Oh yeah, the fellow saabers understand that the north east destroys cars, saabs and jeeps alike. Find someone close to you with a welder and some skills. Seriously I would lend a hand if you brought it to me, and I know tons of people up here in MA VT and NH that would do the same.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Your pre-buy $100 inspection did not have an issue. Your frame is not going to rust that much more in six months. I only see surface rust, yea some is heavy. Get somebody else to look at it.

Ya buddy, I've had to replace a strut mount or two!

Don't trust dealers, they're mostly idiots (sorry to those who work at dealers and aren't dipshits, it's just like the bad cops outweigh the good ones, it is what it is). Hell even the service departments; most people working in dealers aren't even ASE (fact). If they were looking out for your best interest they would be pointing you in the direction of a repair shop that'd fix you up right. "Toast" just means it's some service-department know-nothing jerkoff that hates life and wants to pass it on; or a dealer that wants to acquire an easy fix trade. We don't call them stealers for nothing.

Like it was said above, it's not going to do anything in the next six months; hell I've BOUGHT vehicles in worse shape. Save up for a repair and go to a shop now to get the quote to know what it's going to take; scratch that, go to at least 3. That's too nice of a truck to just pass it on.

Come on folks, there's got to be someone in his area that can lend this SAR Coastie a hand!

Happened to be poking around today and came across these pics. This is what I'd consider bad...

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/tj-f...-118308-2.html

Look at the pic in post #41. That's only a little worse than the frame I saved last summer.

And there's also this place in RI. Take the sections to a fab shop and have them weld them in. This is CNC and pre-formed too, so bigger money and it's still not much.

Center Frame at Skid Plate Mount (ART-113-S) [ART-113-S] - $369.95 : Safe-T-Cap Frame Repair Kits by Auto Rust Technicians, we make it easy to make it safe

Again, wait on it and save.

I'd look into legal recourse with the dealership if you paid for a full inspection. There's no way that frame went from OK to garbage in six months.

Look at the hole above the skid plate bolt:

I agree with someone who posted above about using Auto Rust Tech. When I bought 98, the frame was so badly rotted that the transfer case actually fell out. My rails were also badly rotted where the suspension bolted to it. Auto Rust has frame sections that weld over your existing rails after you cut away the bottom section that are made of thick metal. I highly recommend purchasing the panels and finding a welder to help you put them in... cheaper then starting over...
