You put that rear in yet or what man!
Got all the stuff but the driveshaft sitting at home/in the garage, but not the time to do it. Working on my crossmember for my TT now, and skid, so everything is ready to throw on and I can get my final measurement for driveshaft length since it will be really long and I'm not sure how the drivetrain will set yet exactly. I'm so antsy haha.

I have a yard near me that has quite a few hp30s, I will hopefully find one or two that are 4.10. I'm going to look next week, and if there are 2 I am going to pull them both and sell one

Perks of living in an area where I am one of the few jeepers who actually know this kind of stuff.

There are 2-3 other yards in the area I can hit if that one turns up empty. Worst case scenario I just build a 4.10 hp44 instead

The cv in my front drive shaft went bad, so that's why that's out. I have full intentions on using my four wheel drive though. I don't have intentions on getting a hp30 though, i was just curious.

Well just make sure you get a matching geared rear end.

Yeah i know, thanks! So i've decided to go with a used explorer 8.8, preferably one with 4.10s, discs, and limited slip. arctec (?) truss, and a sye kit. I just need to save up a little and order it all. I have one more question though, any sye kits you would recommend? any brand better or worse than another? Thanks!

What are the benefits of the hp30?
I'm 19 too and I guess I was 18 last year when I built my axles.

I think I was at the 2k mark all said and done. Would have been less but somehow I ended up with new chromoly shafts in the HP30.

I think I made a spreadsheet or something totaling my costs, I'll try to find it.

EDIT: Yikes!

Nice. I heard it's not too hard, just takes time to do it until you learn how. My friend taught himself and did his d30.

that spread sheet is pretty cool. i wont need to purchase any tools, and not touching the front axle yet. so i think i can get away with less then you. but that still gives me a pretty good idea on it. did you do the SYE? how long do you think it took you to have the new rear axle installed and ready to go?

SYE will be installed this summer. I get slight vibes under load. The jeeps been sitting most of the winter because of school so it hasn't been a priority.

I hade the rear axle installed in a weekend, and that was dealing with final touches to the gears.

I ordered the truss kit finally. Still holding out for the right 8.8 though. But I'm reading more and more, and people say i need the sye kit and new driveline or everything won't work right. Cause it might affect how my pinion angle needs to be set. So should i wait till i can do everything or just get it in before the d35 grenades?

Do it right the first time. That's why I have a large pile of parts at my house.

I know that i should do it right the first time, but I'm on an extremely tight budget. And work is slow, and when work is slow i don't make money. Also this is my only running driving vehicle, so i don't want to end up vehicle-less. :/
