What's The Best Hard-top Hoist

Anyone have any feedback on these things?

There's this one:
http://www.discountjeepparts.com/pro...3ae34c588ddda8

And this one:
http://www.quadratec.com/products/12020_01_07.htm

And maybe others I'm missing?

I think you could rig your own for a LOT less money. Buy the pulley, (a self locking one like you use to hang a deer carcass from a tree) straps ect and fab it up yourself.

I have the Lange one. I really like it. Like Dare said though, you could prolly make one yourself for cheaper.

That said though, very easy to install and works very well. Getting a power hoist is a good thing if you will be taking it on and off regularly. I have both tops, so the hard top goes on and off once a year and I run the soft top the rest of the year.

i built one myself that kinda mimics the power Lange system.....and yes, it was a lot cheaper and is totally worth it. not only is nice to be able to take the top off quickly and by yourself, but it is great, safe storage. i have a writeup here if you are interested......

I have one similar to the Lange one from Q. Mine has elec winch however. I found mine used on craigslist for $80, like new. Works great. It's definitely a must-have IMO. I considered building one but by the time I carefully selected and priced all the parts to do it right, it was almost $100, so figured I may as well buy one that's pre-balanced and save a little sweat. But then I found the powered one on craigslist.

Thanks.

I have both tops so I will probbaly only be putting it on in the Fall and taking it off in the spring.

If its only $169 I probably wouldn't bother trying to do something myself.

One of them says it requies attic access over the garage, which isn't a problem for me but not sure if that's better or worse than the Lange one.

$145 for the lange one. it uses a "come-along" to winch the top up. i would replace it with an electic hoist from harbor frieght for $60 (same hoist lange uses in the electric version of that system).

this is the one i have, but it goes on sale all the time for $60.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40765

that would put that system at about $200, which is still about $100 cheaper than their electric hoist system.....that uses that same hoist.

i was able to do my electric hoist system for about $100, so i really can't complain.

it is ideal to suspend this stuff from a cross piece across the joists to spread the load. it also allows the top to sit closer to the ceiling, making more room underneath.

x2.

I would highly recommend that your anchor be installed in the ceiling joists on the attic side for strenth and clearance purposes.
