Whats the space between tires and fenders/flares?

So I searched for something about this and didnt find much... Basically, on stock suspension, how much space should their be between the tire and the front fender flares and rear. I was thinking theoretically it should be at least equal to the up travel of the springs/shocks, plus a certain amount for distance past the spring/shock connection point. Im not really familiar with these values or anything so I have no idea how to calculate it. I know I have alot of room up front right now, for bigger tires. I imagine the only thing that would hinder me would be rubbing at full turn right now. Im just not sure I quite understand how the size of a lift changes how you rub at full turn. but anyways, what is the smallest possble space between fender and tire. I feel like I have a TON of room for both right now running worn down 31s.
