Question Wheel & Tires?

I have a stock 2001 TJ running 31x10.5x15 BFG's on the stock Canyon rims (15x8 with 5.5" backspacing). I need new tires and was considering getting new wheels also. I'm looking at all of the 15x8 wheels for Jeeps and they all seem to have around 4" of backspacing. If I understand correctly, the 4" of backspacing is going to push the new wheels/tires out around 1.5" over stock. Is that going to look goofy on a stock Jeep with no lift? I see the benefit of 4" backspacing if I was running a 12.5" wide tire, but not a 10.5". I just don't want it to look like I'm running spacers. Any thoughts?

You're right about moving the wheels out 1.5". But stockers are pretty well tucked in there, and if you don't put on a wider tire as well, it should look fine. Really an inch and a half isn't that far. My wheels with 4" BS sit what looks to be about an inch past the flares. Keep in mind that with your wheels sitting outside the flares, mud, water, snow, etc. will be thrown up the sides of the Jeep, where as now the flares are catching it. That means every little bit of water you drive through will end up on you somewhere if you're topless with the windows down.... Not a problem if you expect it.
