Where to buy cheap Bada$$ tires?

Hey guys,

Another dumb question from me. I have tried searching around and just can't find the best deal. I found the Guard Dog's on Treadwright which seems pretty cheap.

Any ideas? I am looking for 31x10.5 and I want them to be bad ass looking like duratracs. Might be hard to come by for cheap eh?

Thanks guys!

~ Phil

Why buy "bas ass looking" as opposed to tires that really do the job correctly?

Ya usually the ones people go for like that wear really poorly and fast and are all for looks and suck with traction

Just find some used duratrac's...check craig's list.

Or if you don't want used, some websites to check are:
onlinetires.com
tirerack.com
amazon.com

Your driving the wrong type of vehicle if you need cheap, anything cheap for a wrangler usually comes from China and is nothing but a waste of money.

Discount Tire will price match on any tire they sell, including Duratracs. I got mine for $187 each, 33x12.5x15.

Look at Discount Tire Direct for tires. Duratracs are priced good there plus free shipping. Great customer service too.

I saw a Set of 4 Goodyear Wrangler Authority's for cheap. (don't remember the exact price though, they were considerably less than the Duratracs. Looked aggressive enough

I am very interested in this. Where was the $187 price that you got them to match with?

Now I dont understand the plus one, plus 2 etc and 205/70/16 numbers. What is a good size for a TJ with 2.5 in lift, and 15x8 wheels?

in my searches, after these online tire companies add shipping, i can get them for the same price locally especially since you're still going to have to pay someone to install and balance them, here that's usually 20-30 bucks per tire.......and the local places don't match online only tire stores so i know what you're dealing with......just wait until they have one of their buy 3 get one free kind of sales and use a coupon from the paper

Keep in mind you still need to have them mounted and balanced. If the installer did not sell them wil they do the best balance job or just blame the tires and make it your problem. I may have spent a few dollārs more buying them from the installer but I know they will stand behind their work and not point fingers.

True, but usually if you give them the online price w/shipping, they will meet that price and then add in their installation cost. So you usually will save "some" money instead of paying their full retail cost.

i agree. i went through a situation with goodyear about 3 years ago where we went through 5 sets of tires in a month...that's 5 sets of 4!! goodyear had a bad batch of tires and with an online company, i doubt that would have been able to be resolved because i highly doubt they would pay shipping and return shipping for 5 sets of tires and would have probably done the finger pointing game saying your installer is at fault.

The $187 quote was from TireRack. I printed it out and took it with me when they ordered the tires. Got them in the next day and installed the following morning. I had them throw on some splined lug nuts at the same time. Tread Lightly and Goodyear discounts helped offset the cost even more.

I was looking on craigslist in Phoenix and found a company selling selling duratracs for $620 installed. Links below - The place sounds like a scam/sketchy - Also the guy at Desert rat said the Duratracs are lame because they get "choppy". Anyone have this problem?

I've had mine since January. Drive them everyday. No issues with mine. Been in rain, mud and dry pavement. Excellent handling in all situations.

I used to tout Duratracs, but I can't anymore. If you do not plan on offroading I would though. I went wheeling last weekend with some friends, one of which also had Duratracs. We got to talking about how much we liked the tire because of the low noise, excellent wear, and had plenty of grip offroad. I said something about how a lot of folks hate on them because they are only 2ply sidewalled. I jinxed myself there because about an hour later, this happened.

Been running the Treadwwright Guard Dogs for a couple of months now and I LOVE them. They balanced better than any tire I've had in recent memory, look great (I have BFG sidewalls) and have a not unpleasant whine to 'em at 45+ mph. They were just a hint over $600 for 5 with FedEx shipping. Not a true mud tire, but more like a very aggressive AT.

After plasti-dipping:

Wow guys this is a heck of a lot of good info. I don't even know where to start. I like the print $187 price and bring it in to a store to match. What stores around do you think would match though??

Also, with the guard dogs I probably would buy those but there is a waiting list right now!! UGH I am just having such bad luck right now! Any other place sell these tires for that cheap?

If you call in, the wait is only 2 weeks unless you are requesting a specific casing. I just asked for blackwalls on at least one side and they sent me the matching BFGs right on the estimated time of 2 weeks. Can't even tell they are retreads unless you really look hard and everyone asks me were they can BFGs like these!

Yep, call local and get their price. Then state that you want to know if what it would cost to get tires installed if you ordered some online and bought them in. They will usually then match online prices and add in their installation prices.
