Where to buy front axle upgrade?

I have recently installed a ford 8.8 axle from east coast gear supply with limited slip and 4.56 gears on my rear for a reasonable price. I' now looking to upgrade my front end with ARB lockers and 4.56 gears to match the rear. I run 33" tires and dont want to risk busting my front axle after paying for the regear and ARB locker install, so I figure I may as well take care of the axle upgrade now.

Im wondering where I can get a rebuilt, ready to bolt on axle package for a decent price? So far I only know of east coast gear supply and g-2 both of which are approximately $3000.

From my understanding and my own experience I would not worry about breaking the front dana 30 axle with 33 inch tires. The front axle does not take on a whole lot of weight like the back axle. I run an automatic Lock Rite Locker in mine along with 33 inch tires and never a problem. Put in a locker and the gears and save the money for something else.

The d30 will handle up to 35's open with no upgrades. If your on 33's the d30 can definitely handle it locked. Go up to 35's locked and you might start looking at chromo shafts. The things that need upgrading are the steering, and adjustable track bar, then when you go to 35's look at the brakes.

Just bought a True Hi9 rear and a D44 front, both with ARB's and 4.88 gears!! Check out the build!

Order chromo 27 spline axles and look for an ARB on ebay. (I found a new one for $600) Just make sure your locker is the 27 spline. The reason for using 27 vs the 30 spline is the weak point in the axles is the shaft itself, not the splines. If you were wheeling and happened to break a chromo 27 shaft, you can replace it with the stock 27 spline shaft to get you home.

If your still interested in a bolt in upgrade ECGS also sells High Pinion D30's and front D44's. You can select what options you want just like you did with your 8.8.

so how exactly do these work? My main issue is every shop around me wants at least $1000 to regear my front end, and $500 to install an arb locker. Makes no sense to me to waste $1500 on labor when I can put that towards an axle kit which is much stronger than stock and has everything already installed so I just have to bolt it on.

You need to go somewhere else. Most shops should be around 500-600 to regear axle with parts. It should only cost slightly more for the arb install as they have to drill and tap a hole in the housing and have to plumb the air line.

Try to find a speed shop/drag shop. They will have a lot more experience with gear installs as well.

Also east ECGS is a bit much for a dana 44 front end w/lockers and regear ($3000+). Im thinking there has to be a better way to go.

you really don't need to be looking at upgraded axles. Check craigslist for a d30 with the gears you want. You can find d30 axles cheaper than a regear, though finding 4.56 or 4.88 will be rare.

Thanks for all the info. Craigslist doesnt have any 4.56 dana 30 or dana 44 with 4.56. I did get a quote for 2395 which includes a regear and ARB locker installed. I may as well pay the extra 600 and get a Dana 44 with everything already installed. Thanks again

My total labor for the re-gear, and ARB install was $600. That included drilling the housing all airlines and switch install. Shop around as suggested, you can find it cheaper than $2300.

Can you PM or post where you got that quote from? Looking at upgrading front end as well if 37's go on.
