Where to mount a sub and amp

I was just looking for some ideas on where I can mount a sub without taking the back seat out and not putting it in the trunk. I have 97 TJ

If your looking for small, vdp has an ultimate sound bar with 2 small subs, and 4 other speakers. Quadratec and others carry them. Dont know the quality though, but ive concideredvtrying it.

Kenwood KSC-SW10 Powered Subwoofers at Onlinecarstereo.com

May be able to fit this under the rear seat.

I installed an 8 inch subwoofer under my back seat. It's a Boss 8 inch low profile subwoofer with amp. fits perfectly under the back seat, out of the way, and doesn't take up any space. I bought it through Amazon for about a hundred bucks. was simple to install. i will send a pic later if I can figure out how. It sounds great, but it's not one that will blow any windows out. but you can hear it very well with the top off

There is a cool thread somewhere about a guy that built an enclosure that fits 2 12's inside the rear seat. I thought that was pretty cool.... As far as I know the seat was still fully functional, and padded.

Depending on how hard you want the sub to hit, you could always find a factory sub/amp combo for the console. My TJ didnt have a console, so I went to a salvage yard one town over and picked one up. Went back a couple weeks later and found a factory sub for $40. Wired it in and was impressed. It's no JL audio but its definately not bad.

Subwoofer inside of a Jeep Wrangler rear seat

I haven't built the box for mine yet, but I do have a 400 watt 4ch and an 800 watt mono located inside of my arm rest console.

So it has the subwoofer and amp built in? I want something that I don't have to worry about it being stolen so if its under the rear seat that's great since I have the safari top on during the summer.

Ya, I build them. They are made to be bolted down I have a top that sits over it when you have your top off and no1 has any idea what's back there! the baffles go back under the seat to give you a nice clear sound threw out the jeep. the sub is mounted to reflect off the back glass. good sounding! durable!

I accually have an Infinity Bass Link powered sub behind the rear seat. I love it. I thought about the Kenwood because of the under seat mount, but I got the Infinity because I didn't care about losing trunk space.. Ive heard all good about the Kenwood as far as being compact and good sound.

I like this setup. I may have to do something like this for my daughters TJ. She is going to need trunk space.. How is the sound, and what is the power?

I have not heard it in a soft top unfortunately. I have one that has a single sub with drawer underneath it for tools! it goes for 400$ FFor just a single sub set up $300.00

Sounds great! I have a Rampage frameless soft top and I can tell you theres not much difference with the top on or off. The sub is a Kicker CVT12 and amp is a "400 watt" random crap that came with the sub from Craigs list. If I really wanted more power then the sub could handle it but I'll wait till this one gets dunked and get another marine certified amp.

Here's my setup.. Nothing special, just a bazooka tube and an amp under the seat. I really like lil yeller's setup though with everything under the seat.

I have a small sub with a 300watt built in amp mounted behind the back seat. Fits perfect. Just look for a truck box sub. They are slanted and fit nicely. And it makes the whole sound system sound a million times better with some bass in it.

For $20 with an amp included, it sounds pretty darn good My tj has a basic stereo and I cannot adjust the subwoofer bass but I hooked it up to my friend's transam and it actually impressed me. I have a hard top and I didn't want a system with too much bass since I live in a very rural area and I don't want to attract attention since my tj sleeps outside from time to time.

Is there any negative effect when someone sits on the rear seat? I am quite interested in doing something like this

yes, yes there are. Theres minimal padding there now. Maybe like an inch or so. and that makes for a rough ride with people in the back. also since you have no padding, you sit higher in the seat, this causes an adult to hit their head on my frameless top, idk how it would work on a reg framed top or hard top tho. Also if you decide to do this then make sure you expand the box all the way to the edge of the seat. If you dont then you will end up sitting half on the box and half off the box. I havent done a writeup since I dont recommend doing the box like mine, theres some other things I would have done if I had a garage and the time to build it properly.

And a 400 watt Kicker amp screwed to the floorboards under the seat drives it....

It was easy to remove when I wanted. The amp is mounted to the back of the box. All the wires were ran under the tub and then up through a drain hole.
