Which grill inserts are better?

Can't decide, need opinions. Aside grime the price, which style of grill inserts are better?
Billet style or normal?

The top one looks neat and would help keep bugs and leaves out of the radiator but is there any chance it could also cut down on air circulation to the radiator causing heating problems out on the trails.

I don't think over heating is an issue, talked to the guys at quadratec and they said its just a matter of preference on look... I want opinions lol I'm so indecisive

Looks wise i like the billet style. But i question that air circulation too.

The other ones put horizontal lines across a grill that is supposed to be 7 vertical slots. Doesn't look bad, just looks like it doesn't belong there to me.

I've had the billet style ones on for over a year and haven't run into any air circulation issues.

Use option 2 but cut out the horizontal supports & replace with sheets of gutter guard.

I have the billet ones ( in black), there's no problem with overheating. My opinion, I think they're the best looking.

When it comes to grille inserts, it's really more of a matter of appearance over functionality. They don't really do much of anything other than allow you to add a visual style to your TJ.

I've got the "normal" black inserts on mine. I like how they look.

That may be true of the clip-in plastic inserts

I've got a 'Rampage 3D Mesh Grill' made from one piece of heavy-duty steel mesh that has a 3-dimensional surface and formed inserts.
It creates a very strong barrier in front of the radiator and will stop anything getting through and damaging the radiator fins - birds, rocks, twigs, branches, bats - you name it.

Also when the giant mutant grasshoppers in the North of my State get splattered all over the front of my rig, it's a lot easier picking them off the mesh than getting in the slots and picking them off the radiator.

Installation was a real PITA - The overflow bottle, fan shroud, radiator, aircon radiator (if equipped) all has to be loosened and moved back so the mesh can be pushed up into place from below, but once installed, you have a VERY STRONG barrier between your radiator fins and whatever wants to damage them.

For those under the impression they restrict airflow - I live in a VERY hot climate and haven't seen any changes in the running temperature in any conditions - either all day @ 60mph on the highway or all day crawling rocks in 100 degree heat.

Here's a pic - hope my chrome grill doesn't offend
Now that REALLY IS a mod that is...
