Question Will 1988 6-cyl Engine Fit in 2002 TJ ?

I'm seeing a used Jasper 4.2L in the classifieds... will an engine for a 1988 Wrangler fit fine in my 2002 Wrangler ? They are both manual shift.

Thanks...

I can't comment on the fit, but if you're going to run on the roads make sure you check your local laws.

Some States have regulations on swapping engines in vehicles. Putting a newer engine in is usually not an issue, but you may run into trouble putting in an older engine.

For God,s sake why would you intentionally put a 114 HP engine that has very limited service life left. Parts for it are getting scarce and expensive. The only thing the 4.2 has to offer is its crank.... get the 4.0 HO and buy any aftermarket part you need. I'll swap you if you have a 4.0... my 4.2 still runs...

Actually I think it was a 4.0L... used Jasper engine with 5k miles on it for about $600 seemed like a good price. But NOT if it has less horsepower.
