I have a 2004 Rubicon with a 4' lift. I plan on going up to the 285 75 16 tire on my Moab factory wheels. Will the tires clear the chassis and body ok under suspension compression and doing full left and right turns when in rough terrain 4 wheeling? I did not have a problem with 33"s on 15" wheels but I have since sold them. The Moabs have a 4.5" back space so I think they will work out. Don't want to run a wheel spacer on the hub.

depends how well you have the bumpstop extensions set, if the axles are well centered, and if you'd adjusted the steering stops.

stock Moab's have 5" backspacing.

Might have to. bolt stuff up and see how close the tire is to the rear spring perch...that will be the big deciding factor. I'd vote in favor of Spidertrax spacers if you want to keep the Moabs.

The axles are centered and i don't believe I had any trouble with the 33's. I did not remember the back space on my 15" rims and the old set up had the tire well outside the stock fender flare. Just was not sure the Moabs had enough back space. I measured and must have been off so I am glad they are 5" might be ok. Thanks for your info will be heading to the shop tomorrow.

I just put 285/75/16 BFG ATs on my 2006 unlimited rubicon last month and did not use wheel spacers as I wanted as much of the tire under the flare as possible.

I have the DPG Offroad Ultimate kit. I have no issues with the spring perches in the rear. I have not stuck a ruler up there, but I have >1 inch clearance from my perches and my axles are centered. I have more clearance with the tires aired down for off road use.

I did have to adjust my steering stops up front though, because the tires rubbed the lower control arms. Two washers on each steering stop *almost* fixed my rubbing, but a third one on each stop did the trick. I have not missed the loss of turning radius.

I am very pleased with the look of the stock rims and 285/75/16 tire.

Here are a few pics as promised. Sorry it is just a few, it was 38 degrees with wind gusts of 30+ mph. Thanks to the U.S.S North Carolina for serving as a backdrop.

before on stock suspension with the original tires even:

After with DPG Offroad's Ultimate kit with a spring spacer up front in anticipation of a winch/bumper and BFG ATs

Lifted:

Only part of the tire outside of the flare is the sidewall bulge. All of the tread is under the flare.

Thanks for the pic's and information. After much contemplation I decided on 5 new Level 8 zx 16" wheels and 265 75 16 Goodyear Dura Trax. Ordered and should have it on the Jeep in 10 days. Will post some pic's.
