Will My Axle Hold

I want to do a 3 inch lift and run 32 tires. Will my stock rear Dana 35c keep up?

Providing you don't also install a locker, your rear Dana 35c should be fine with 32" tires (within reason).

Didnt plan on putting in a locker yet. Do I need to re-gear or will stock roll ok? I'm just looking to upgrade a little at a time, but don't want to do something stupid and crush my ride. I imagine i'll eventually put in a back d44, add lockers, drop the transfer case, etc. as funds allow, but I've seen folks lift 4 inches put on 33s and have all kinds of headaches. Thanks Jerry.

Can't say if regearing would be a good idea without knowing your present axle ratio. If your axles have 3.07, I'd regear to 4.10. If your axle have 3.73, I'd stay with that until you get to a bigger tire size as it's not worth the $$$ to only regear from 3.73 to 4.10.

My jeep came with a 3" BL to clear 33' tires and 3.73 gears.

My jeep is also currently in the shop because the ring gear in my D35 lost some teeth and took the rest of the diff with it. So i guess that is as good a reason as any for me to upgrade to a D44.

My TJ has 3.55 gears and there was plenty of power left with 32's.

Thanks guys, good to know. Didn't want to get too crazy with the tires/weight and shred my axles. I'm guessing to do this thing properly, if I go 3 inches or higher then I should also install an SYE and rear driveshaft, as well as a drop Pitman arm. I'm also wondering if I just went 2 inches to stuff 32s then i wouldn't need all the above mentioned stuff yet and could stay factory for a while till my bank swells. ?

You dont need the drop pitman arm even with over 3" of lift. Do a search for "Drop Pitman Arm" and you'll come up with plenty of threads that explain why. In short, its sometimes a necessary part added to a lift on older jeeps like the YJ's. The TJ's suspension does not need the arm replaced.

If you plan on sticking with the 32s then 2" would be fine. I was wheeling my jeep pretty hard with no lift and 32s when I first got it. Sure it rubbed the flares constantly but I didnt care.
Throw in the 2" spring kit, and if you ever decided to upgrade to 33s you can just put in a 1.5 body lift and still be good to go.
