If your talking about price and quality you are talking about economics. How do you think they determine their prices? Hopes and dreams?

Your right they could but that's not what we're condemning. We are condemning the companies who out source they products and assemble them in china to get the lowest price for a consumer because they have studies economics and understand how Americans purchase goods.

I'm sure China can and sometimes does build a good product, but most of the time, they don't. The truth is, Chinese products usually aren't as good as ones made in America, Germany, Japan, etc.

OK, don't normally post on something not directly related to Jeeps, but if you like Apple products, iPhone, iPad, etc.... they are all made by FoxConn in China. So China can produce the product a company designs. Additionally, they have some of the best titanium welding (golf driver heads).. just some data points for clarification. And for a negative, they can copy/clone anything - fake Magpul, Surefire, etc.

For winch, I've set my sights on a Warn - I believe they are the most reliable.

I'm not about to get sucked into the 'Chinese' versus 'American' quality debate. But I do have a Chinese-made winch (Smittybilt) 8000 X20 and its very fast and very reliable. Have had about 2 years and no problems so far. Time will tell whether it was a worthwhile purchase.

Also not getting into the 'who makes what best' debate, I have a Come Up winch mounted to my TJ. These are made in Taiwan.

Mine has never let me down and these are the only vehicle mounted winches to be taken to both the north and south poles.

golf driver heads aren't welded, they're cast in titanium. huge difference.

Golf driver heads (bodies) are forged or cast, and the Ti faces are welded to the bodies - arc or plasma.

Keep this in mind, simple math, if you pay people more to make something they have to sell it at a higher price to stay in business. Low wages make things go down. Simple.

Saying something is cheap, doesnt mean it is low quality.

Look at the military, and nasa. They buy their materials from the lowest bidder... does that mean everything nasa has made is JUNK?!

Also keep in mind, the foreign workers work to put food on the table, and the owners have no problem finding another person to take their place.

Im defending neither side, but seriously? this is common sense. business 101.

Business 101 or not, your and my priorities are clearly different... I could care less that Chinese/foreign workers have to put food on their tables, I only worry about our American workers putting food on their tables which is my #1 priority.

There is a big push in America to start buying more American produced goods, I've been on that bandwagon for many years. It's too bad more Americans aren't as concerned with keeping their fellow Americans employed and food on their tables. And I clearly & intentionally defend one side more than the other. I just wish we all would... it is our fellow American's jobs we're talking about here.

It is about winches. The OP asked about reliability of the Rugged Ridge winch, which is made in China.

It's a good job we Brits are as easy going as we are or you guys would be in deep crap.

Your banks screwed up the sub prime mortgages which totally screwed the world's banks and most of the European economy.

Then your bloody President has the cheek to 'warn' us that we have to stay in the EU so that we do not upset the 'Special Relationship'.
Because of American greed most of us can only afford to buy cheap Chinese stuff now.

Agreed . Just a question of reliability. And prices are pretty much the same( at entry level)on all the winchs that I have been looking at. Except the higher grade which I might just hold off and buy in 6 months or so.

Well, that explains some things. I broke 4 drivers last year. I wonder if Warn makes an eight degree loft...

Winch Expertise and Innovation | COMEUP USA
I also know of more that a few Comeup winches here in Colorado that have been used HARD on some of the hardest trails there are anywhere and they have been flawless....
I have a Comeup and have no doubt it will work flawlessly for me too
The quality of these are very easy to see and for this quality combined with a syn cable and remote for less than a Warn it was a easy choice for me, not that they are exactly inexpensive! I was one that only thought Warn too but when Warn started manufacturing and selling products from China themselves well
