winch

Has anybody installed a winch on a stock TJ bumper? can it be done even?

Yes, mine is installed on the stock bumper. You'll need a winch plate

I used the stock bumper but I did cut it off some.You will need a winch plate and most any of them will work but I would double check to make sure the mounting measurments are correct for your bumper.Should be but never hurts to be safe.I did add some other items to "dress" it up.

The reason a winch can be bolted onto a stock bumper is the winch isn't actually bolted to the bumper at all. Its mounting bolts only pass through the bumper's top mounting bolt holes to the frame below which is what really provides the strength to hang onto a winch.

The winch itself is first bolted to a mounting plate, and then the mounting plate is through-bolted through the top of the bumper to the frame underneath.

Factory bumper, chopped up, winch mounted to winch plate and hand built stinger.

I took the bumper off my TJ. mounted a winch plate. Mounted the winch (M8000) to the plate. Left the bumper off (for now). Works great.
