We have the Barricade Winches that are a pretty solid "budget winch". You can check out the reviews on the product pages and see what people are saying about them. Let me know if you're interested in a quote or if you have any other questions!

The Barricade looks very similar to the Rough Country. I know rc is known for re badging or selling there's off for re badging and these winches look like the engo, bad land. IDK just my thoughts
My Warn xd9000i is 10yrs old now.......Still works like new.........
If you cant afford a new Warn winch, then buy used off clist.
Your going to waste your money on a cheap winch that will be good as a boat anchor in less than 3yrs................
If your super cheap but want a badass winch look for an old Warn 8274...........They still make them today, they still make parts for the old ones. It also has a faster line speed than most of the new winches out there.......
As the owner of a XD9000I, I couldn't agree with this post more. So much in fact, that I just bought a used 8274 (winch, plate, and 2 remotes for $400) off craigslist myself, and will be selling my XD9000i.
OP: The 8274 is a very fast Winch and will pull the bumper off your Jeep. Buying a new one is stupid, but for the same money as Chinese junk why not find a used one online rebuild it (if necessary) and have a very nice Winch?
Why does fast matter? If you start wheeling with a group and end up in a Winch fest which happens you will appreciate a fast capable winch.
Why not a new cheap Chinese winch? Its very easy to go out by yourself on whim and go wheeling and do something stupid (beside going by yourself) like get stuck (hand raised, Buried a new JKU in a snow storm.) When that happens you want a winch to work. Period.
Just my opinion.
I bought a cheap Champion.. Only problem I had was cheap controller and they replaced that.. I ended up selling the Jeep & Winch.. starting new built on TJ and now I'm eying the Engo 10000S
And one more point.. IMO it's just like everything else.. If you ask enough people you'll find that there is always a complaint for every product out there..
But I definitely agree/understand.. When you are burned w/ a dead winch in the woods.. you'll probably never buy that brand again even if they give you a free replacement..
Off my soap box..
I also have the RC winch with synthetic rope. When I got it all the connections inside the control box were loose. Some only finger tight. Be sure to check this. The resistance from a loose connection can permanently fry solenoids or cables. Pretty lights at night though....
Winch works ok but QC was not good in my case.
I'll buy cheap underwear, cheap floor mats, cheap seat covers, but I'll never go cheap on my Scotch or a winch. And if you ever get into a situation where you really (!) needed your winch, wouldn't you feel better about not having gone cheap?
I need a winch . I've been trolling on Craig's list for a warn xd 9000I when it comes up for the right price guess I'm buying a winch. Until then spending my money on other mods.
For me there is nothing like products from the old USA.
I was up on the Jeep Jamboree (Rubicon Trail) a few months ago with a buddy that works for Applied Materials and before that with Intel for years. He is in charge of quality control of products and travels to Asia several times a year, excluding China.
Anyway he brought up a set of horseshoes to have a little tournament and have some fun with. On our 3rd match one of the shoes got thrown a bit long and hit a big rock and broke in half (WTF) I have never seen a horseshoe break in half. We looked at the box they came in and guess where they where made "CHINA". If they cant even make Horseshoes to last I don't want them making my winch. :nonono:
My Warn M8000 was first bought in the mid 1980's for my Toyota P/U, then moved to my Blazer for a couple of years then then taken off and put on a shelf in my garage for over 10 years. It was brought our of retirement about 8 years ago and mounted to my YJ when I got it. The first time it was opened was last summer when I decided to rebuild it, not that it needed it I just thought it was due.
My Warn M8000 on my 95 YJ for 7 years
My old M8000 at work pulling out a full size rig
Oh yea it been submerged and keeps on going
The same Warn M8000 now on my 05 Rubicon for the last 18 months
1/2" synthetic winch line would be total overkill and rare, 3/8" is the most common and even it has a 19k to 20k lb. breaking strength.
What's almost funny is the breaking strength of 5/16" wire rope that comes on most winches is between 9,200 and 9,600 lbs, which is not up to the power of some Jeep size winches.
The length of line out doesn't change the strength of the winch line... you may be confusing how hard a winch can pull the further out the line is. But you actually get more power the more line that is out, not less. A winch can pull with a lot more force and power the more the line that is out due to the winch drum diameter getting smaller giving the winch more leverage and power against the load.
For example, my Warn 9.5XP winch can pull with 9,500 lbs. of force with one layer of line around the drum. But it can only pull with 6,940 lbs. of force with 5 layers of line around the drum. http://warn.com/truck/winches/95xp_winch.shtml
