winch cover in the mountains during winter with synthetic rope

I'm new to the jeep hobby and just ordered a new winch with synthetic rope. I've read and received a lot of mixed thoughts on whether or not to use a winch cover during winter months. I live in Breckenridge Colorado. They sand the roads rather than using salt or chemicals. I've heard that the winch covers trap moisture and can cause more damage than help. What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

I use a winch cover when the winch isn't in use. the sun fads it pretty bad, but it does its job of keeping junk off the synthetic line & winch. i live in denver and make frequent trips to the mountains.

I'm not sure how it would trap moisture that much.
