Winch deals.....

Im looking for a basic 8,000lb winch, nothing fancy. Does anyone have any experiences/recommendations for a basic, reliable winch?

Thanks

You will find that most people on here will recommend the M8000 winch from warn as being one the best budget winches around. It will run you a little over 500 dollars

I have an OLD M8000 and I like it just fine.
It's not fast, but it's reliable.

Just this past week I ran across an 8000 lb winch by Rugged Ridge that was only $299.
Ordinarily I might shrug it off as just another cheap winch but my experience with Rugged ridge products has been pretty good. And it has a three year warranty.

It might be worth checking out.
Quadratec

I would be more likely to avoid the Chinese stuff they sell at places like Harbor Freight.
Although its' affordable and sometimes you can get lucky and get a good product, it's a crap shoot.

If I were personally looking for a winch at a bargain price, I'd give it a try.
Worst case scenario you'd have to return it.

Ever since I got my jeep I've had my mind set on the Superwinch EPI 9.0, sure its a 9000lb and not an 8000lb but over 10 months I've yet to find a different one that changed my mind

This subject has been well covered here on WF. Use the search function and will will find many threads on the subject, including posts on what winches you should stay away from.

The only winch I would trust my Jeep, and my life with, is WARN. I have had the XD9000i for about 5 years, and it gets used a LOT. Even pulls double duty as a suckdown. I would say I have at least 800 pulls(not including suckdown duty) on it. Mostly on others, but myself from time to time.

That is true. Smittybilt, Rugged Ridge, most Superwinches, T-Max, and Milemarker electrics are made in China. The only winches still made in America I am aware of include all Jeep size Warn winches, Tabor, Ramsey, Milemarker hydraulic, and the X9 and S9000 from Superwinch.
