And to the OP, sorry about the damage to your Jeep I would be upset also.
Thank you for input and apology hopefully I can figure something with state farm today

Nevermind, I just saw your last post. I was curious if you were going through insurance. I was gonna say spend the money on fixing the jeep.

Yeah the company that recovered me said on the paper it was just a tow in hollister not hollister hills off road park so it should significantly help the process but if state farm says no I will spend the money on the jeep instead

Hmmm I never considered the whole insurance and off road park thing.

When I wheel locally in the State Parks I am "on public roads" so its no big deal. Never thought about it when I go to Rausch Creek.

I've got a Q9000 and I'm happy with it so far. It hasn't gotten much use though.

Not sure about the price, but I wouldn't think you need to go through all the trouble of a tub swap with your damage. You need a tailgate, and a body shop to straighten out the back. Take this as an opportunity to upgrade things and maybe learn some body work. First thing I would be looking at is rear corner armor. The body won't have to be "perfect".

No the whole inner fender is pulling away from the tub and a crack formed at the location where the rocker meets side panel

More news I was able to remove the tailgate and hinges spare tire carrier etc to have an open back now and I noticed the floor was also bent up.... Would it be possible to get someone to weld in a new floor and side instead of a whole tub swap?

I'm curious about this particular winch failure as the 10K size is the most recommended winch size in these parts for JKs and JKUs. What was the angle of the slope? Was the winch pulling on its own power. with no drive train assist (someone inside, vehicle in 4L, in drive giving it gas)? Was the ground dry, wet, muddy, or rocky? Were you using a snatch block, or two? Steel cable or nylon line? How much line was run out? Did the clutch fail, motor burn out? Kinda looking for the situational details to make sense of the failure.

Steel cable, yes 4l first gear, muddy/ brush uphill I didnt measure the sloped and no snatch block and still haven't taken apart the winch not really worrying about it at the moment for I am trying to figure out my tub issues

REVIVAL!!!!!!!!
I hate to do this but this is my probably most subscribed thread and I just hoping if someone could give me some advice on what they would reccomend I do.jeep damge - Imgur
Also i noticed some damage on the driver's side. It seemed to push the little metal tab the tail gate rests on away from the bottom piece and also the passanger side tub along the passanger door has some nice bends... Maybe some pulling could pop those out.

I know I'm going to catch a lot of grief on this, but Harbor Freight has a very good winch lineup. They hired some engineers from Mile Marker winch to design their Badlands winch series. A 9000 lb winch will run you about 299. The series got a great write up in 4 Wheel magazine about a year ago.

If I were in your position, I'd take the gate and attaching hardware off, and find a non dealer sponsored body shop, the guy down the street type of shop and see what they would charge to pull the tub square (if it needs it) and to pull out the corner. It's not difficult to do, based on what I could see in your photos, it's all labor time. Shouldn't take more than 3-4 tugs to get it pulled straight and looking right.

I have a winch similar to the Harbor freight brand and its nothing special. It works I pulled some 50+ foot telephone poles and winched a buried YJ out of the mud last summer. Like the Ergo it doesn't have tension on the spool. The shift lever is sticky and feels like it might fall off.
If you ever have the opportunity to watch a Warn winch work you will realize you bought a inferior product. My wheeling partner has one of the better Warn models. I've had him winch me up a hill where my fronts were off the ground. He winched jeeps down a icy hill too slick to drive then winch his jeep down . The rewind unloaded is way faster , the controls are way better and shifts like is brand new although its about six years old.
I bought mine knowing everyone I wheel with had good winches but now feel like I'm three hundred dollars further away from what I needed.
In the gun business we call it buy once cry once.

Sorry about that. I was a bit tired when I read this thread. Im all about keeping threads on track.

As far as the damage, I had to do something similar with my CJ years ago. I ended up buying corner armor and sucking the body back into shape via the corners and some heat.

Looking at the pictures the damage could have been much worse. The biggest blow was to the hinge side of the tailgate. If he popped the top off and use a come along to pull on the top of that corner it would straighten up and maybe close good with a new tailgate. To be perfect it looks like theres a body line around the corner to change that panel ? Most guys put corner guards on to cover up this kinda damage. The top probably would be cheaper to replace.

Op, I would seriously consider buying that complete tub for $1k and doing the swap yourself.
I don't think having a shop attempting to straighten your current will be any cheaper and also consider the tub's metal be somewhat in a weakened state. Just start with another clean tub, you will enjoy the end result and costs much more.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here but Id seriously save up for a decent winch.I have a Warn, the only issue I had was the freewheel lever wouldent turn so I dissasembled it,found the gaskets leaked & caused water to get inside.Called Warn & they sent me gaskets.I think a winch is something you dont skimp. My next winch will be a Warn but I wopnt get another one of there VR line of winches.Maybe a Zeon or M8000.

Thanks to all your posts I gotta a lot of tests this week before break so I am kinda trying to focus school... But it is so hard... Honestly it sucks seeing my jeep like that state everyday and I just quit my job due to an issue with management I couldnt take it anymore. So no more money.... So blow it on a Jeep My dad seems to think my winch is fine but he doesnt off road or anything just a businessman who is smart as hell and doesnt like spending money. I am researching places near me to go get qoutas!!!
MY PLAN (willing to take advice.. kinda why i started the thread)
1. Find good shop
2. Find the parts I need
3. straighten out the tub
4. passenger side inner fender and rear tail light holder
5. get new tail gate and bolts(no more torx they piss me off)
6. repaint jeep with tractor paint in my garage
7. put on savvy corner armor
8. buy and install soft top
9. enjoy a closed jeep!!!!

I talked to pretty much every body shop within 2 hours of my house over my break and every shop is going to charge me all my limbs to fix it or the cheaper shops say it is too much work and so I now looking at the option welding in a new back half of the tub...

That's actually doable, and not too bad if you can get the part of the tub you need for a reasonable price and can weld (or have a friend that can). A friend of mine who goes by Solman on here has a build thread in TJ tech and he does essentially that. He ended up turning his TJ into an LJ, but the same principle could apply to you.

just wanted to get this back on the main page. Tax time is soon so people don't end up losing money by trying to save money on the wrong item.
