It would not spool in under a load. I had the solenoid box under the hood with the remote plug, and also hardwired to a winch switch on the dash. It will spool in and out with no load using both controls, but just grinds if there is any load on it. Probably a gear or something? Doesn't matter, it's not my problem anymore.

I'm happy with my (limited) use of the 9K Engo w/synthetic cable. I've only used it 3 times but it worked well.

I would have loved to "buy American" but there were no options in the price point I was looking to spend.

So I based my decision off the winch shootout & the Engo seemed to hold it's own quite well. No complaints so far.

I just bought the 12000 lbs winch from HF but still haven't used it. I had to buy a new bumper off eBay because their winch plate wont fit my tj. It should be here by the end of the week. Its a 97' 2.5L. I got the winch for $299 too

I have a stock 1997 TJ Sahara. Will I need to buy mounting accessories or will they bolt on easily? I have a 30 foot tow strap. Are there other items that will need to be purchased to make the most out of the winch? Working to upgrade tires, wheels, etc and need to do some work on the very loose front end so I have to do all of this as inexpensively as I can. Experienced death wobble so that is also on my list to take care of ASAP. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us newbies!!!!

Bought a trailer years ago for racing. It came with a Harbor Freight brand winch in it (6 months old). One day we broke an axle and went to use the winch to get the racecar back onto the trailer.. lets just say it didn't work out the way we were hoping.

^ would be perfect. I don't recommend skimping on winches, it will save you time and money doing it right the first time.

i have the smittybuilt XRC8 used it 3 times since i got it last year. worked fine everytime. i could have gone with the warn, but like some here have said im on a budget and got the XRC8, smitty built rear bumper, 2in BB boost in stead of just a winch. the parts are made in china i guess i didnt look. i also dont check to see what part of the middle east the gas i put into it comes from either.

Warn has a mail-in rebate offer through the end of April...$50 off the VR8000. Also free shipping, so $430 out the door.
