winch question

hi im looking to purchase a winch real soon but not looking to break the bank. i was considering the warn vr 8000 because of the name and reliability. i came across the rugged ridge 8500 on amazon for $256. Does anyone know anything about this winch? i cant find too much info on it. i go wheeling about once a month but im looking to increase those numbers after i buy the winch. c

i know its made in china.... and i know i will never buy a winch from there or one made with chinease parts...

Honestly IMO a winch is not something to go cheap on. I would not go lower then the M8000 from warn, they can be had for 500 quite often.

With a winch you get what you pay for, go cheap and thats what you get.

That'd be a good safe decision. I doubt there's anyone who ever bought a Warn wished afterward they had bought one of the Chinese imports instead... and you can bet big $$$ there have been many who wished they had bought a Warn after their cheapy winch failed just when they needed it the most.

Cheap floormats? Sure, just don't go cheap on important parts like winches, water pumps, starters, alternators, etc.

I've owned countless warn winches. m8000 is still a good value in the premium line.
If you are going to go with a cheaper winch I'd look at the engo. They get pretty good reviews.

I have warn vr8000 wench. Still $ for somthing you are not going to use it alot. I have had it a year still have not used it. Lucky for me. So for half the price go to harbor fright and get the badland series wench. It was highly rated by 4x4 magazine. They did the test and it was best buy for $. I know lot of the new younger jeepers here don't have lot of $. So save some here and later get new lift, tires, shocks or gears.

I have the engo 9000 and so far love it. Only used it once to winch another jeep out of a deep mud hole that froze over a few inches

I have an x20 8 pull lots
Of stuck girls from snow. Never my self. Good luck I suppose. Have torture tested it to for fun. Works great. It's over a year old. Biggest vehicle it recovered was a full size Chevy truck.

no company has a better warranty then war... lifetime from a company that has been around over 40 years beat anything any chinease company that might be gone in 6 months can offer.

Huh????? How can it be better than lifetime??? The Tiger Shark has 1 one year electrical (same as Warn) and a 2 year mechanical (where as Warn has a lifetime). Did you check it out or listen to the salesman?

I'm fairly new to wheeling but I picked up a used Warn 9.5cti last summer for a decent price. In just the past year I've used it to pull people out of tough spots on three separate occasions and get myself out of a jam once. I've personally seen a nearly new chinese winch fail. I don't recall the brand that failed (solenoid issue I believe). That chinese winch was under warranty but that wasn't much use at the time. It did have a really big, pretty yellow hook though.

As far as winch warranties go, the warranty helps you after it's failed. I think the winch reputation is far more important than the warranty.

No sorry I must have miss understood. It was this or the vr8000. Vr has Chinese parts from what I read so I figured more winch for less $$. This is my first winch.
