Winch Questions

Mile Marker 9500. Is it any good. It is on sale for 499 bucks at National Tire and Wheel. I'm not really looking to buy a winch right now, but i might have the money for it, and i might go ahead and buy it. What do yall think of it?

Typically you get what you pay for in a winch. Also, Four Wheeler has never given a negative review for anything that they have ever tested. Warn, and maybe Ramsey (but I am buying a Warn again) are the only winches that I would put my money into... Cheaper to buy the right one the first time than the wrong one twice...

The entire line of electric winches from Milemarker are Chinese imports, vs. Milemarker's U.S. made hydraulic winch line. Personally, I don't want my money going to China for a winch, I'd rather buy a U.S. made Warn.
And so far as the review goes, I never saw a product a Magazine review didn't like if the product is an advertisers's... as Milemarker is in Four Wheel magazine.

I went to MileMarker's website and they claim they got the contract to replace the Warn winches on the US Army's Hummers with MileMarkers (pictures there to prove it).

I assume the Army does lowest bidder, but they also test stuff prior to awarding most contracts.

BTW, I've seen their 8000# winches as cheap as $299 on sale. Costco I believe sells 'em on www.Costco.com.

Good thing about Warn........if you burn out the solenoid, you can replace it. You can't do that with MileMarker. MileMarker is also s l o w e r in winch speed. For the price difference, I guess you could buy two MileMarkers. I have had great customer service with Warn, and I like their product. I also like to support, American Made. I got a brand new XD9000i for $650.00 on Ebay. Shop around, and you can find good deals for the quality you want.

You have to understand the winches Milemarker supplies to the US Army are US made hydraulic winches. The winch he's asking about is a Chinese-import electric winch that Milemarker sticks their name on. Milemarker started importing their line of electric winches because they were losing what small market share they had to electric winch manufacturers.

And Milemarker isn't the sole providers of winches to the Army, just on that old contract they were the low-bidder on.

Collins Bros. Jeep in Dallas sells this brand as well. They seem like straight shooters and will sell you whatever you want. so if you call 'em, they can probably give you a pretty honest review. Then you can make a decision.

$329 for the 8000# model
$429 for the 10,000# model

No financial interest in Collins Bros., though I have been a customer.

Jerry I think you will find that most of the winches or even parts of the winch are made in China. I would suspect that some Warn parts are made by the same Chinese manufacturer and then sent over here to be put together. It's very hard in today's global market that a company uses all completely US parts/workforce/etc...... I'm assuming that everyone has owned a pair of Nike's at one point in time. Those are not made here, but the money pretty much stays here.

That all being said I had to be winched up 2 waterfalls last weekend and it was a Warn that handled those duties. I've seen very few Warn failures and have for a fact seen the failure of the Costco winch. The "You get what you pay for" motto seems to play well in this scenario.

You also don't want any winch with a permanent magnet motor.
