Winch Size

Just wanting too know how would you determine winch size for your vehicle. I've heard get a winch 1 times half the weight of your vehicle. But I've also heard just get a winch 2 times the weight of your vehicle because of resistance caused by mud, hills, sand and such... Any advice? Thanks.

A Wrangler does fine with a winch rated anywhere from 8,000 lbs. to about 9,500 lbs. of winching capacity.
