winch solenoid

For winches with the standard solenoid does the solenoid have to be mounted to the winch or can it be remote mounted? Specifically I was looking at the ramsey 8.5.

Also what should I be looking for in the mount. I was considering the ramsey mount or the Hyline. What do you all think?

Winches with a separate solenoid enclosure can have their solenoid enclosure mounted pretty much anywhere. But if you get more than 3-4' away, you should up the gauge of the heavy wiring between the winch and solenoid enclosure by one gauge. Mount-wise, most mounts are about the same so just pick the one you like the most. Only some of the "generic" mounts not made specifically for a Jeep should be steered away from.
