Winch Solenoid Mounting?

I have a Warn M8000 on my TJ with a Warn front bumper and mounting plate. My question is does anyone have a decent write up or pictures on mounting the solenoid pack under the hood or behind the grill or something? It is currently mounted on the winch with the bracket from Warn. The problem is it likes to get hung up on the cable. Any advice is welcome.

If possible could you please post a picture of the cable getting hung up so we can see what you're talking about? That's not a problem I've heard of before.

I mounted mine alongside the fuse box on its side, & screwed it to the inner fenderwell. The controller plug faces forward. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures.

Some welding cable, new cable ends, and a homebrewed mounting bracket did the trick for me.

That's pretty neat I'm still puzzeled about what the OP described...

I dont have any pictures right now but I will try and get some tomorrow. The solenoid pack is mounted above the spool with the factory warn bracket. The bracket doesn't hold tight so the pack falls into the spool if you will. So the cable rubs the bottom of the solenoid pack. Hope that helps some

I can picture that. The under hood mounting sounds like a good idea except for the heat issue in my oppinion. Also remember to upgrade the size of the wires to a couple sizes larger than what came on it stock if you're going to move the solenoid that far away from the winch motor since the original sized wires are ment for a short distance and might not perform as well due to the resistance of a longer cable.

I do not believe there is a need to change cable size. The cables are already sized for the load in question to be carried from the battery to the winch. Not just the short distance from the solenoid pack to the winch when it it mounted on top of the winch.
On mine I merely switched the cables. The two short ones that originally went from the solenoids to the winch now go from the battery to the solenoids. The two long cables that originally went from the battery to the solenoids now go from the solenoids to the winch.
I will say there is nothing wrong with upgrading the cable size if you feel the need. But as far as the load and distance goes I don't believe it is warranted.

Is it the same size wire on both sides of the solenoid? If so then I believe that you're correct.

I used some 00 gauge wire for mine. It never hurts to have perfect power when you are pulling 100s of amps!

How the hell does your solenoid get hung up on the cable?
