some people just wire it through the cowl. i like as little wire as possible showing. i took out one of the windshield bolts & ran the wire directly behind the dash.

unfortunately, i don't have any pictures on my current TJ, but this is what i did with my old one.

when i 1st did the install

Just picked up a YJ and he's had lights mounted on the windshield but couldn't brig himself to drill through the bracket. I'll look into the way you did it. Def don't want it going through the cowl that would look sloppy

I drilled my cowl. I like the clean look and since they'll stay there I'm not broken up a bit about having a hole there. However, there is usually a little space in the corner of the cowl to run wires but you still have to take the cowl off to run the wires and tie them out of the way of the wiper motor and arms.

i'm not sure if the YJ's are the same as the TJ's. if they are the same & you use the way i do, you will not have to drill anything. once that bolt is removed, it is a straight line to behind the dash.

Yup. Haven't seen them lit up since he never ran the wires for the windshield lights. The bumper lights are wired with a relay and are inside the cockpit but are not wired to a switch yet

I ran mind a little different, covered them in shrink wrap then tucked them underneath my light brackets, then underneath the weatherstripping.
