Windshield Replacement

I had a crack develop in my windshield. Apparently i had a small rock chip near the bottom that i never noticed and the extreme cold and extreme hot of the defrost caused it to propagate up into about a 8 inch crack.

Anyone have experience or ball park price on getting a windshield replaced? I was under the impression that the insurance company would pay for it for next to nothing but it seems like I'll have to pay my whole deductible...

the TJ windshields are cheap enough that its usually under the deductible. living in colorado, either the sand or gravel from the roads bust/chip it or the extreme temp swings cause stress cracks from the edge......in fact, the current windshield is only a few months old and just developed a new crack in this -10°F weather....

I called Safelite- $279 for a full replacement, 90 if they can repair it (sounds like its right on the edge of repairable)

I guess i'm lucky mine made it 7 years UnlimitedLJ04 - although in Texas we dont have a lot of sand/gravel trucks for the roads... but plenty of big rigs. We have extreme temperatures, but i'm guessing the wrong extreme to be cracking glass.

-10?? i thought 18-25 for overnight lows were bad here!

Flat, almost vertical, it's the nature of the beast. I also learned my lesson a long time ago how fast and hot a TJ defrost can get the first winter I owned it. I watched a small rock chip turn into a crack frigid cold morning.

I am on my second windshield, and it has many cracks in it now. I have let it go for a couple years since there are no cracks directly in my line of sight.

Already have it set up to be replaced by my insurance co. They use Safelite. My deductible is only $100.00, but I am going to wait until spring. Single digit temps here right now.

I have Geico insurance. My TJ's windshield was not cracked, but pitted, which when the sun was low caused poor visibility. Geico sent Safelite out to replace it with genuine OEM Mopar glass, no cost to me at all and Safelite did an excellent job, very clean and attention to detail and fast.

I'm on my second windshield for that reason. I'm paying $150 too... Who did yours? That's cheap as I get mine done with a discount

"the windshield shop" Was a local windshield place when I lived near Wichita Kansas. No discount. I've since moved from there.

Last year $200. Try getting a clear one, not tinted.

I got one done at Glass Masters for $150.00 but they are only on the east coast, I think. The company gets terrible reviews but they did a good job for me and it was half the cost of Safelite. Came with a lifetime warranty on the install.
