Windshields

Okay, my first windshield got cracked last summer as a result of bad luck in the form of a flying chunk of concrete on the highway. Back in the fall (October I think), I had Safelite replace it. By December, it had another crack in it for no readily apparent reason. I do some snow wheeling, but nothing so intense that it should have cracked the windshield. It's a vertical crack right in my line of site from the bottom to about halfway up. Haven't actually talked to Safelite about it, but from reading the fine print, I don't believe they will cover it.

Anyhoo... I know they're flat and at a steep angle so they're more vulnerable than other vehicles, but do I just have bad luck or is it common? Does Safelite use poor quality glass? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't bother worrying about it, but it won't pass inspection which is due in March.

distortedtj where are you getting them replaced for 120?! I got a quote from safelight for 200.

Beer30, I don't see why they wouldnt replace it, thats what the warranty is supposed to do. They advertise a lifetime warranty

Make sure to ask for made in U.S.A. glass. The Chinese glass has three initials starting with F.

About 5min from my house. But I am in Kansas...I'm sure they are different prices in different locations of the country. Place is called "The Windshield Shop" literally.
I've had 3 replaced in the last 4 years there....Rock and other debre like my windows. Tree limbs jump out some times. They let you choose between the china crap or Factory USA made...I run the Factory ones.

Also...check with your insurance company....A lot of them do 1 free windshield replacement a year. Worth looking into...my insurance doesn't
