Wire Harness Question?

I am new to this site so bare with me. I am working on a "99" with a 2.5 and it had the erractic idle sputtering popping thing going on. I replaced the crank pos sensor and it was perfect for about three weeks. Then it came back. I played with the wire harness leading to the ckps and it started up. The break in the wire is on the wiring harness close to the plug. I cut the plug off and tried to slice the wires with butt connectors and now it won't start. I don't want to cut the end off of the new ckps to splice the wires direct in case it doesn't work I will have screwed up a $80.00 ckps, So can I get the other side of that plug with several inches of wire on it from the dealer? Or what else can I do? I know that I wiggled the wire probably ten times using a remote start switch and it would start the I would move it and it would kill
