Weak joint, cheap joint, worn out needle bearings, bad right from manufacturing.

Stuff breaks man, it sucks but it is what it is. It could have been much worse or more expensive stuff lol. Just get to an auto parts store and take an afternoon to get it all fixed up. Dude if that makes the worst day of your life, you've had it pretty easy What was the 'pucker factor' when that thing broke off tho. Bet it was like an 11 on a 1-10 scale. It's gonna cost you like 75 bucks to get that all fixed tho. dont stress dude!

I hope you don't lol No like Rubi2 said it was probably just a weak point and would have happened to anyone eventually. It got worn and finally gave out; no biggie! Go grab a new one and pop it in! As for the muffler? Hmmm scotch tape??

My exhaust looks like that without my driveline coming apart and it's no big deal, something has to give, I'm sure you would rather it be the cheap u-joint rather than the driveshaft right?

Like they have said in previous posts. Stuff breaks. Good time to change all of them.

Age, loss of or lack off grease/lubrication, just normal wear... Those joints are meant to be wear/maintenance items anyway.

As dry as that thing looked I am surprised you didn't have vibration or chirping sounds while driving.

Don't get cheap u joints from autozone or anyone else like that they are crap. Spicer or another similar company.

+1 and add them to the list of stuff to check... they should have grease nipples. So make sure they don't run dry.

Listen to all the chirps...your Jeep is always telling you what's wrong. Kinda like the Force but it's a Jeep thing.

I'd be nervous if I were you. There's no telling what other damage may have been done. You should get rid of that thing before something else bad happens. I'll give you $1.50 for it as it sits.

Use this as an excuse to get a new cat back exhaust. If it has to get replaced, might as well make it worth your while

I don't know. It might need new muffler bearings. That should drop the price considerably.

Seriously, you should have that thing fixed up in no time. I'm replacing the u-joints on my Dodge 2500 tonight. That's going to suck.

I bought a cheapo Cherry Bomb turbo 2 something or other muffler and a short piece of pipe for like $30 at VIP a few years ago. Still rockin.

Thanks. I like it.

How often? I replace mine sometime between when the squeaking starts and the loud bang you heard.

As mentioned, good time to replace them all, especially if you can get help as pictured above Anyway, I once saw a pickup pogo stick on the beach when a front u-joint went.
