from what ive been told the tread had to be up to half of a penny when you stick it in between the knobs.

Half a penny???? A penny is 3/4 of an inch. Half of that would be .375 of an inch or 12/32, which is more than most tires have brand new.
I think most say up to Lincoln's head when the head is pointed down, which would be about 3.5/32, which might pretty close for passing.

I think those in the pic would pass if the inspector has had a good day.
Aren't there wear bars around the tread??

Problem is there off craigslist and I need a couple tires just for a month or two until I can afford to get 33's and wheels and my inspection is up sunday and my tires now are basically slicks. The guy has 4 bfg muds for a super cheap price. 2 are like the one in the pic and the other two have a ton of tread. That was one of the two pics he sent me when I asked how much tread was left.
