Would you ever trade your TJ for a CJ

As it warms up the more and more CJ's I see on the road makes me lust after them even more. I have to get another daily driver soon as I'm going to have a longer commute and to be honest I kinda miss having a quiet and tame car but I keep wondering if maybe after the TJ is a weekender I should put my TJ up for sale or trade for a CJ. I love everything about them. The simplicity, nostalgia, and how obnoxious some of them are... I could type until my fingers bled about the pros and cons of both and why I would or wouldn't. I've decided it would be a split second decision if I ever did. How do the other TJ owners feel?

(Side note: woman says two Jeeps aren't an option so I can't keep the TJ AND get a CJ.)

I have been wanting to trade mine for a while so I found a guy willing to trade his.CJ-7 for my TJ. Had one in high school and sold it when I was in Iraq and regretted it. I love the look if CJ's. Your not alone in this.lol

Never. I've owned cjs, yjs, and tjs over the past 19 years. I would never consider owning another carbureted jeep.

I would only trade if it was a mint Scrambler and had an LS engine swap!

I'm lucky, my girlfriend has a CJ5 so I can drive that when the mood strikes. As for swapping my TJ for a CJ, not for me. I like driving my Jeep too much to go back to a CJ, or maybe I should say, I like my back too much to go back to driving a CJ.

Which CJ are you referring to? 2, 2A, 3A, 3B, early 5, intermediate 5, late 5,early 6, intermediate 6, 7, 8..
I drove and built early CJ5's for 15 years. I sold my main CJ to buy the TJ. I wanted a more car-like vehicle, which I got. The TJ has almost nothing in common with early CJ's. I'm looking for a flatty though, to sorta replace my '67.

Sorry I should have been more specific. CJ-5's and CJ-7's. I don't really have much experience with the earlier ones

Which CJ5? There's a huge difference, especially between the early CJ5's (55-71) and the late CJ5's (76-83). The intermediates (72-75) are fairly comparable to early's, except for Saginaw steering, hanging pedals, and of course AMC's inline 6's and V8's vs. the early's Dauntless V6 and Hurricane 4.

The CJ7's are all fairly comparable, since they were introduced in 1976 along side the first "all AMC" CJ5

I would never trade my TJ for anything...she's mine and I love her. The Golden Eagle has risen and all shall bow down to her....she's M'Lady. But in all seriousness, I had a 74 Scout that was pretty bad ass, but unfortunately these old rigs are expensive to restore and upkeep. I really don't think it gets any better than a sweet TJ.

After having a 93 YJ Sport and a restored 79 CJ5 with the 258, and my now 97 TJ Sport there is no way I'd trade for a CJ. WAY to much money to build a CJ to ride and crawl as good as a TJ.

I do miss my ol grumpy assed CJ though.

Yes, but only for a clean, stock as possible, Scrambler.

Heck I even did the drop tailgate mod to my TJ because I missed it from my old CJ.

Yep I would trade my TJ for the right CJ5, like around a '73 model if it had the AMC V8. A friend owns one & he & I completely rebuilt it from the frame up until it was like new, complete with a new body & reworked AMC 360. Beautiful rig, I love it. It won't do the trails my TJ will but...

The carb is the killer. The other problem lies in the fact that I have spent so much time working on my jeep and spilled so much blood under it that I could never part with it. My jeep is part of me and something I can't part with. I will replace my car, I will replace my suburban but the jeep isn't going anywhere. Won't even trade it for another. It's also the first car I ever purchased on my own.... I love my TJ....

For me, it would have to be a CJ2 (not a 2a) or a CJ6. I was offered a swap for my 2a back in 2000 for a new TJ. I turned them down.

i would not trade mine in also. i love my tj.i go out with cj5,cj7 guys all the time. even when my tj was stock i had no issues keeping up with them offroad. now that i did some work they cant keep up with me. i think the only thing i would trade it for is a 12 or better JK rubicon.or a diesel power tj or 2015 jk diesel (god i hope they make it).

Bought a CJ5 with a 304 V8 from original owner in 1990, bought a TJ Rubicon in 2004.....sold the CJ last fall so I had room to work on TJ during the winter months.

I love CJ's...maybe get another when my garage grows up, but fuel injection and coils with arms is just soooo much better in soooo many ways that I have to say no CJ I've seen (outside the final one ever made) would convince me to trade my current TJ away.

If it was a MB GPW with an LS or LSX motor and Atlas transfer case, yeah I would trade. If it didn't have the Atlas it might be a deal breaker unless they let me keep the Atlas II out of my TJ.

Oh he!! no. I had a 5 and a 7. There is no comparison the Tj is a much better platform and the coils don't beat the crap out of you like the leafs do. My bro has a 79 cj5 pretty much all stock with the 304cid and my little 6 banger will out wheel him on any day.
