wrangler unlimited

i just found a 2005 wrangler unlimited it is everything i want except for the unlimited part... i really dont like the longer body as much as the normal one but i am going to put a lift and tires on so would the lift and big tires not make it look as long?

nope it will always look long my dad has got one he put a 4" short arm and it looks kind of goofy in my opinion

It depends on what you are going to do with it. You'll find that the longer wheelbase does better in a lot of off-road situations (why do you think so many people streach the wheelbase on standard TJs?). Also, the added space for passengers and behind the seat comes in very handy.

Here's my Unlimited, 3.5" lift on 33's.

The unlimited's are ok. in my opnion they don't look all that bad with a lift and mod's. Here's some things to consider:
- Is this your first wrangler? If so you might be suprised how little room there is in the back
- Is people/cargo room important? You can't transport stuff and people at the same time in a regular wrangler.
- Certain mod's and accessories cost a little more b/c of the longer body & frame
- There aren't as many of these so down the road it might be more valuable
- There aren't as many of these so parts down the road may bw harder to find.
- Longer wheel base means it may not fit in some really tight spots as easily.
pretty much you have to weigh your options and decide which things are more important. also I would check out some pics of lifted and modified unlimiteds and see if you like the way they look. if you don't like the way it looks you probably won't like it. it's a psychological thing, if you think its ugly you will probably find other things you dont like about it.

unlimited is right, the longer wheel base will do better in a lot of situations, especially in mud and water. my husband has a commander and I have a cj7. he made it through some water holes that i didnt because he was able to get one tire on dry ground.

The unlimited's are much more practical for day to day use. I have both TJ's, XJ and ZJ, the XJ gets most of the use for my job, hunting, etc. The TJ's are fun and I love them but if I really have to do anything more than transport myself and a few items forget it, I take one of the cherokees. The unlimited bridges that gap IMO. I'm hoping to find one in a few months once I get some more cash saved up to replace the XJ otherwise I will end up buying a 4 door wrangler and I really don't ever want any car payments again.

If you get the Unlimited, take my advice and don't settle for a BB and 32s - you probably won't be satisfied with it. I did that and now I can't wait for my tires to wear out so I can get 33s and another inch of lift. It makes a difference. 33s are minimum to look proportioned and 35s are even better, but a lot more $$$ when you consider everything that has to be done to go with 35s. JMHO

i like those pics it does look a lot better then the one i looked at it was all stock still but ill get specific im going to do a 5" lift and 35" tires the one thing i do like is the gearing at 4:11 that is enough to handle the 35s w/out any mods to that part of it i liking it the more i see it but they are askin 16,488.... like i said its all stock what should i not pay more then cause that seems high and its at a dealer

Man If I had to do it over I would have bought a LJ.. all because I feel the tj is somewgat cramped and I dont even have the rear seats in.. I dont load much.. but I think the ride quality would feel so much better for everyday use..

I hated the look before but Now I digg it..

Is it a Rubicon? Because if not, it does not have 4:11's in it.

I wish I'da found me an unlimited. 11inches longer wheelbase and 13 inches of cargo. Yeah the first time you go camping w/o a trailer you'll start to like the unlimited. Just my .02 though.

no its not a rubicon... i looked up that gearing on the internet but i dont remember if it said for rubi or not.... so what is the gearing then?

I think I saw you guys in Hollister a couple of weekends ago, cool rig. I was in the black lifted unlimited helping out the stuck toyota

Anyhoo, the stock non-rubi unlimited comes with 3:73 gears which isn't bad but once you throw on 33's it blows goats. If you're going to go to 33 or 35's you'll want to regear to either 4:56 or 4:88. The extra lenght isn't really that bad in tight spots you just have to pay a bit more attention if you don't want body damage.
OVerall it's a great starting platform, and you'd really be surprised how far you can go in one of these in stock form.

I'm not surprised at all, I wheel an XJ and go places TJ's can't... I wheel a TJ too so I know.
