Yeah that is a very painful lesson. Had that happen my first week of owning my jeep.

Are you guys hitting it on getting in or out? I have no problem with either. Right hand goes on the inside of the rollbar, other on the door and I just throw one leg in, hop with with the other and pull myself up... Getting out I just open the door all the way turn in the seat and hop out as to not get my pants all dirty.

Guess I'm lucky. Only snagged getting out maybe 5 times in the 2 years I've owned it.

I think it can happen either way, it usually happens getting out with the seat slid back.

I have mine rather vertical. The PO must've been pretty tall, he removed the seat from the factory bolt position and moved it back and bolted it in. So my seat slides back another 2-3 inches.

That's a good mod... mine's about 2 notches too close for me.

I didn't realize it until last night, I have it all the way back and it is perfect for me. And I'm only 6'0

I've owned the LJ for 6 years now, never had a belt loop grabbed.

Maybe that's because 16 years in a modified CJ5 trained me to get out without catching, or pay the price...

Look at getting Misch Bigboy brackets. Absolutly the best mod for comfort for tall people.

I am still at a loss how a vertical belt loop gets snagged on a closed horizontal door latch loop. I have not had any torn belt loops in 5+ years.

I haven't ever snagged any clothing, maybe because I'm a shortass and have my seat right forward...

Wow 30 years of driving Jeeps and I have never snagged a belt loop. Now I've just cursed myself and I bet the next time I get in I rip my pants completely off...

I've had mine a year and yet to rip a beltloop knock on wood. I have about ripped my hipbone off a few times. At least that's what it feels like. Lol

Everybody seems to get it caught at different times. I get caught getting in. Others getting out. FYI, I do have the misch big boy brackets, great mod. Only problem is now my head is really close to the roll bar, really close.

I'm 6'8" tall. I have to thread myself in every time. My buddies ask why did you buy such a small vehicle? They off-road with me once and understand

I've got 2 or 3 belt loops. The best one was when I picked-up a co-worker, 6-4 275 lb farm boy. He jumped in, snagged the latch, ripped out the whole side out of his jeans! Still makes me laugh.

QUICK FIX = Take a hack saw and cut that thing off. No more torn pants!

On a serious note, they will hurt your rider, too, if you aren't careful. My wife was getting in her side one day when my foot slipped just a tad bit off of the clutch. It slammed her back into that thing, causing some pretty intense pain when that thing hit her about kidnew high. Could have been worse. She could have fallen out and .....

Anyway, lesson learned. Keep the vehicle in neutral or park until all passengers are safely inside or away from it.

Just tried your mod. One question, how do you keep the doors closed. Going straight is no problem but turning is a real bitch. :-)

I have had my LJ for almost 3 years now and havn't taken a belt loop off yet but have hung myself from the strike by the belt loop. I have also hit my hip on it a few times and that hurts.

It's a jeep, why do you need to turn, it goes over everything!!

I've lost a couple of belt loops in my day.

What I hate is when you jump out and your right toe hangs up on the inside of the lower door opening. You start hoping on your left foot that is now on the ground and praying your hammy don't pop!

Dumb jeeps!

that's why they make tie down (door closure) straps. Just wrap a couple of them around the outside of the Jeep and if the strap's long enough, you can take care of both doors with one.
