XJ Dana 30 upgrade

Hi I was wondering if swapping in a hi pinion Dana 30 from a XJ would be worth it to replace the low pinion Dana 30 that I have now. I already have one sitting in the back yard with the same 4:10 gear ratio as mine. I just don't know what if it would be Worth it. Any thoughts?

yes gains you about an inch of diff clearance. but before you install it pull the axle shafts from your TJ and put them in the XJ axle. the TJ shafts are a little stonger then most of the stock XJ shafts, aka bigger U-joints.

The shafts the same strength, the difference is just the joints. The HP30 is much stronger on the ring and pin end, close to a lp dana 44. And if the XJ is a 95 or newer it should be the same as the TJ for the u-joints. also 93 and newer will no longer have the center axle disco as I recall.

Yes a HP30 is a great swap, my suggestion would be to swap from your knuckles out on your TJ so that you can utilize your current year hubs and rotors for ease of remembering what replacement parts to get. Before swapping shafts just check the size of the Ujoint compaired to your TJ. If they are the same leave them in. If you end up with the smaller 260x ujoint use them as trail spares.
