Yeah another Regearing question...

Ok i have asked this question to many people, and everybody gives me a different response.
I have a 97' sport 4.0L 5 speed manual, runnin' 33's with a 3.5 in lift. My jeep is a daily driver and wheeling is a weekend hobby. Currently i have 3.07 gears with my 33's. I know that regearing to 4.56 would be great for wheeling, and a sh*t load of torque, but like i said it's a daily driver, and i don't want to be redlining in 5th gear on the highway. So should i go for 4.10s or what?

Everyone says the 4.56 is best for the manual transmissions and the 4.10 is best for auto transmission. The problem you will run into is that the carrier must be replaced when you go up to a 3.73 or higher. That means that the axle will need more than just gears to get it where you want it to be. I am not sure what the cost would be, but I am betting an axle swap from the salvage yard would be cheaper and you can get them stock with the 4.10 gears if you wanted to go that route. Remember that all 4 cylinder engines had the 4.10 gear ratio. Hope this helps.

I have 3.73's and do fine in the mud, on the highway, and light to light racing against every old lady in a Civic I come up beside. I will be switching to 4.10's or lower, though, because I feel it will be even better in the mud. Plus I can race little old ladies in Accords then.
