Anybody out there monstalined a yellow TJ with the yellow color they offer? The guy that answered my email from them told me the Urine Trouble matches the Jeep Solar Yellow but just curious if anyone has done it?

I'm still trying to decide between that, gray (to match the seats and interior) or solid black (I'm running a lot of black/yellow on it)

I pulled all the carpet out to see if I liked the color and I think I do. Thoughts?

I don;t know about the yellow, but the spice Monstaliner matched my spice interior quite well. I would not do black as it will get hot in the sun. Good luck, over prep, and get a few extra rollers.

I've discovered over the last year since I monstalined with spice that I cannot easily repair the few gouges I've managed to whack into the liner. If I had done it in black touch ups would be easier

couple of options: rhyno lining companies can do colors mixed in. (expensive but you get it the way you want it.)

other option, home lining it, then paint over it what ever color you want (may require touch ups depending on quality of paint.)

last option: just go black.

Well I made my purchase tonight and decided to go with the Urine Trouble Monstaliner. Eric from the company had a special going on that "other jeep forum" for free shipping and a free quart of chassis saver with the purchase. I think I am going to be pretty happy with that yellow and I love the contrast between that and the gray/black accessory colors I have on the rig now.

Really looking forward to getting this and putting it on, probably over the long Labor Day weekend.

Pics to follow for sure

Cool beans! I used the promo for chassis saver and free ship as well. Great deal. Cant wait to see pics of the yellow! I did mine in black. (my jeep is black so i think a color would have been just a bit overkill)

Ha, I'm not really sure you can consider it a promotion anymore as the free quart of chassis saver has been going on since he first introduced Monstaliner

Also I've had my Monstalined for I think 3 years now and it has been fantastic. I have noticed a couple chips where the silver chassis saver shows through. They are in the rear though which isn't surprising to me with all the abuse.

Eric sells the touch up packets pretty cheap so one of these days I'll have to touch it up.

Very good! Had mine for maybe a month or two and very impressed. My dog cant scratch it!! Hahah but my question was how long.. Looks like it should be a while which was exactly what i wanted

Hahah i couldnt do it. I painted my shackles orange and hoping to get a bit more orange on it soon but i think an orange tub would still be a little much unless i had my rollbars painted as well haha idk.. I like black

Please post pics!!!

Remember, the hardest part is the prep, but if you do it well, it will last a LONG time. Your application will only be as good as your prep and cleaning prior to laying it down.

I did my green TJ in black interior when I did it back in 2010. If they had had green to match back then, I would have SERIOUSLY considered doing it. But the green/black theme my Jeep now has is nice too.

VTBalla,
Please keep us posted, I have a Yellow TJ as well (I'm in NOVA as well), and am looking to do the same. I ordered the color chips from Monstaliner, but chose "Don't yell at me" and "Detention" thinking urine wasn't going to match.

Thanks,
I did the same thing man. I never even bothered ordering the Urine Trouble paint chip actually

Its really hard to tell from their website but it is an exact match for our solar yellow, or as close as they can make it anyway.

Where you at in NOVA? I'll probably be doing this over Labor Day weekend if you're around and wanna lend a hand, and I would obviously return the favor.

Jeez i wish id have had a helping hand haha i was out baking in the sun and cleaning up my sweat that dripped onto the tub so it wouldmt loook so bad. Haha but im very proud that i did it all myself :)

Got around to doing this over the long weekend. Spent most of Friday evening taking the the interior apart. A lot of the bolts were rusted and really frozen in there so it took a lot longer than expected. I probably spent about 2.5 hours Friday evening and had to finish the rest up Saturday morning.

Overall the removal went pretty smoothly except I broke one of the bolts that holds the rear seat bracket down to the tub. Then I broke the extractor bit in it trying to back it out. I was tired of screwing around with it so I just left it and decided I would deal with the consequences later. Remains to be soon how much of a price I can pay for that. I hope I can get it out with vice grips from underneath the tub. if not, I will just drill a new hole for the bracket. Or just make it a permanent two-seater

Mistake #1

Saturday afternoon was spent cleaning the surface and scuffing it up and wiping it down with acetone. Once finished I ended up putting down a coat of chassis saver in all of the high traffic areas. Mainly all the floor boards, the rear tub floor, and the rear tub sides on the wheel wells.

For some reason I used one of the textured rollers out of the kit. I guess I wasn't thinking, so I ended up ruining it and the CS was way more textured than it should have been. This was a severe brain fart on my part. I went a couple hours later to put on a second coat and the roller was hard as rock so instead of trashing my last one, I decided to just go with one coat. I also trashed my paint brush cause my buddy helped me get some of the scraped areas covered with that.

Mistakes #2 & #3

I talked with Eric (great and fast customer service btw) about the need for a second coat and he said one coat would be fine here. Left it to dry overnight to hit it bright and early on Sunday afternoon.

Or so I thought....

Went out drinking with my buddies and fiancee Saturday night and ended up staying out pretty late. woke up around 11 am on Sunday and went to make a quick trip to Home Depot to pick up some last minute supplies to get the job done...

Mistake #4

Or so I thought...

Home Depot didn't have the textured rollers, or the foam pad (I wanted to get an extra one). So I went to Sherwin Williams...then to Advance Auto Parts...then to Autozone...then to Michaels...then to Jo Ann Fabric...not a single one of these places had anything close to the texture of the roller. I spent about 3 hours driving around D.C. in Labor Day tourist traffic trying to find this shit and came up empty on all accounts.

Mistake #5

Eric responded to my frantic email that the rollers come from a Herculiner roll-on kit and wouldn't be available at any paint or hardware stores (as I had already figured out). He said to call auto stores to ask about the Herculiner kit, but none of the Advance or Autozones in my area had them. I guess there just aren't enough trucks around here, and even less people lining them, to make it worthwhile to carry in the store. that really sucked.

So by this time it is getting close to 5 pm and I am fed up and just ready to get this over with. Basically not caring how it turned out. My fiancee helped talk me off the ledge and helped me tape up the edges and get everything ready to paint.

We started to mix it up and realized I needed a separate 5 quart pail to mix in the tintable monstashades with the coloring and the catalyst. I had been researching this for week and this was the first I had heard of that. It wasn't in any of the main instruction kits and was instead written on the top of the gallon can, which I hadn't even taken out of the box yet.

The lack of clear directions was probably my biggest gripe with this product. Apparently they are re-writing the instructions for the tintable shades and the Jeep specifics this month, but that doesn't do me a whole helluva lot of good right now.

Finally got it mixed and began painting. My fiancee's sister and her husband are in town visiting so they helped roll on a bit. I definitely appreciated their help but if I had to do it over again, I would have done it all myself so I could keep track of where everything went and how thick. Definitely ended up missing some spots in the first coat.

Mistake #6

I also, in all my driving around, had failed to get a paint brush to replace the one I had ruined with the CS. So like a dumbass, I didn't realize it till we had already started.

Mistake #7

We used the provided foam brush and that was helpful to get most of the areas the paint brush would have been used for. But again it was hard to keep track of where everyone was working.

We ended up getting the coat on by about 6 pm and i spent a few minutes cleaning up splatter and drips with the Acetone and peeling off all the paint and removing the ear plugs from the holes so they didn't harden on there. It dried very quickly, which was great, and we were able to tape it back up before cleaning up and heading out to dinner, leaving the second coat to when we got back.

The Jeep was in the garage so I thought I'd have enough light. We even pulled one of our halogen stand-up lights in to spotlight it.

Mistake #8 (as I would later find out).

We had preserved the one remaining large roller by wrapping it in plastic and putting it in the fridge after the first coat. It was still soft and pliable when we started the second coat. I had to gerry rig a handle for the smaller roller since I couldn't get the original one out of the other small roller we used on the first coat (I had tried as soon as we were done with the first coat). I had also picked up a paint brush and a couple foam brushes from Home Depot (in my second trip there of the day) to replace the original and to try and replace the foam sponge (it had fallen apart later in the first coat application).

I did most of the entire second coat myself, with my fiancee helping every now and then when my arm would get tired. We were much more methodical with the application of the second coat, starting in the back and covering that with the paint we had, then adding more paint to the tray and moving to the front. They got tired of watching me after a while and went inside while I finished up and tried not to asphyxiate in the garage (we had several fans running and it was obviously opened up).

I finished up and got them to come back out and give some eyes on to see where I may have missed in thickness (it was pretty easy to see the chassis saver through the paint when you weren't thick enough). Touched up the spots and cleaned up splatter and packed everything away happy that the job was finally over.

Remember mistake #8 I was talking about? Well apparently the fake ambient light wasn't enough to reveal all thin spots. Looking at it today in the natural day light I can tell a few spots where I didn't get it thick enough, mostly in the back in the tub. It isn't REAL obvious, but I definitely notice it. I tried to see if I could salvage any of my remaining paint but it is too hardened now to use I think. I may eventually buy a quart touch-up kit and see if I can straighten it out, but it is going to have to do for now.

Going to lightly spray it down here in a couple hours to help the curing process and get around to putting some things back in there tonight. I may take my motorcycle to work tomorrow and give the liner an extra day to cure before throwing the seats and consoles back in.

Cliffnotes:

Overall, I would say it was a fairly educational process and I have satisfaction of knowing I did the job myself. I made some pretty dumbass mistakes along the way, but I definitely learned from them (hence the educational part). I would say some top advice for others:

-Allow plenty of time. Seriously, everything I planned for ended up taking nearly twice as long as I had originally thought. This is from removing the interior, to prepping the tub, to preparing to actually apply the paint. The quickest part ended up being the actual liner application.

-Take your time. In the same vein, don't get in a hurry and make sure you do it right. Tape off anything that might possibly get wet. I would invest in some plastic to cover around the tub if I were going to do this again--definitely a bit of splatter off the textured roller.

-Make sure you have all you need before you start. Eric sells everything you need on the website. I would buy an extra foam sponge (if it is available individually...it would be great if the kit actually came with two) and a couple extra paint brushes. Also buy extra paint trays because the kit doesn't come with ANY (the instructions said it did)

-If you are going to apply the chassis saver, be sure to buy another tray and another brush/roller to apply it. Don't use the textured foam ones that come with the kit to apply the liner. It doesn't need to be textured.

-Having an extra set of hands around is nice, but do most of the painting yourself so you can trust it is done right. Other people would be helpful for cleaning up splatter, fetching items you need, preparing more paint in the tray, grabbing you beers, etc.

-If you are going to line the same color as your existing paint then be sure to chassis saver EVERYTHING. I only did the traffic areas, but I should have done the whole tub. It makes it much easier to tell where you have been and where you need to thicken things up at when you actually start to put the liner down. I guess the downside of this is it shows through if you don't get it thick enough and don't realize it till the next day

-Plan accordingly (goes along with #1 and #2). But I definitely should not have started that late in the day after spending all day trying to find the needed accessories. I should have just put it off till the next day and made sure to paint it all in the natural day light.

-It is very difficult to see where you have scuffed on light colored vehicles. Take extra time on this to make sure you do it right. Also another good reason to use chassis saver as you can probably get a bit of "prime" from it for areas that weren't sanded as well as they should have been.

I am very happy with the product overall and Eric's excellent customer service. But that said, I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the instructions. Eric was great for answering my questions I sent him on a weekend like that, but a lot of this should have been said up front. Namely:

-The fact that an extra bucket is needed to mix the tintable shades, color, and catalyst

-Don't say trays are included if they aren't. Or better yet, include them.

-Include an extra paint brush in the main kit and an extra foam sponge in the Jeep kit.

-Include an extra handle for the other small roller in the Jeep specific kit. I couldn't get the handle out of the roller after the first coat and had to use a replacement one that didn't fit right and rubbed the paint.

-More scuff pads would have been awesome (only one was included)

And the afters. I will snap a couple of everything when I get my interior put back together to see the final product. These look really good right now though IMO. This is about 10 hours after the second coat.

Hey VTBalla,
Sorry I wasn't able to lend a hand, and for all the issues you ran into. From the pics so far job looks really good and color looks like a pretty close match. Thanks for all the detailed comments, suggestions and notes. I'm sure many who haven't lined will put this to use.
